Recommend me a Home Theater Sound

I currently have an older Sony home theater system which sounds great but unfortunately it is HUGE! Has the big block subwoofer and the tall side speakers and the large square rear speakers with a huge center speaker lol. It is more suitable for a stereo system in a game room than a theater system in a living room

I am interested in getting something small and we kind of want to keep it simple. I was looking at the Bose Cinemate (to give you an idea of what size I'm looking at) but it was given poor reviews. I want something that fills the room with awesome clarity and a subwoofer that really hits without distorting. I am not concerned with true surround sound as I don't want to mount speakers on my walls or run wire across wooden floors.

Can someone recommend me a good system? Thanks!
