Default PS3 Disc Spinning Issue

Has anyone ever had this problem? I bought a new DVD a couple weeks back, put it in our PS3 to watch, and it kept spinning, and started making sounds like the disc was hitting the bottom of the tray every 5 seconds or so. I took it out and put it back, making sure the disc holder wasn't broken, it wasn't. It kept doing the same thing. I tried other discs (DVDs and Blu-rays) and all worked fine. We got our PS4 about a week later, the DVD works fine in it.

Any idea what the issue could be? All firmware is updated, though I doubt that would play a part...

Not sure if it's the same thing as your issue, but I know when we borrow movies from the library, they have a plastic cover on top with a security metal. I think that makes the discs slightly off-balance, so when they spin fast they cause a noise. In my case, the discs almost always play, but they are louder than other discs. Haven't seen any damage to the discs, and the PS3 hasn't had problems.

Knowing your discs are brand new and wouldn't have anything stuck on them like the library discs, it may not be the same thing. Unless you see anything on the disc that would throw off its equilibrium.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe switch from horizontal to vertical (or vice versa) to see if it matters on that particular disc.

I will try standing it upright today and testing it. I know when I got the disc it had no scratches, but after putting it in and trying to play it, it came out with scratches right around the middle, where it would sit on the tray.
