You somehow, in advance of time, know there's going to be a huge natural disaster which will obliterate your home, and you have time to quickly grab three of your most prized blu-ray posessions.
These can be your most expensive or favourite films, or just good old blu-rays of sentimental value. Which three do you grab? Just so we're not all reading mini-lists of 3 films per post, a little explanation as to why you're picking them might make for some fun/interesting reading. ![]() Go! (And I'll post mine later once I've thunk about it) |

I'm not going to pick the three most valuable, or even the ones with the best transfers, audio, or extras. I'm going to go with the three films I could watch repeatedly (and do watch each a couple of times a year) - Blues Brothers, The Goonies, and GhostBusters.

Day of the Doctor from the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Collection because it was an excellent celebration of 50 years of Doctor Who.
An Adventure In Space And Time from the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Collection because it was like a love letter to Doctor Who. Doctor Who Series 9 Steelbook because it's priceless given there's only 2000 of them made. |

If we're talking a literal desert island, mine would be:
Frozen (steelbook) because my eldest daughter would kill me if I didn't, and it's a bit of a collector's item. Big Trouble in Little China (steelbook) because it's John & Kurt, and although The Thing is one of my favourite films, I can walk into any shop and buy that. Not so with BTILC. The Sopranos box set, because I'm still only half-way through Season 3 and I need to finish it, and it's not cheap! Castaway to give me hope. Dumb & Dumber as it's my favourite comedy and would hopefully keep my spirits up. 12 Angry Men to keep it old school, plus it's an astonishingly great movie, plus they don't make 'em like that any more. Ratatouille as it's one of my favourite animated movies and to keep me smiling. A Matter of Life and Death Book: The Bible Luxury item: Photo of my wife and girls Last edited by stigdu; 04-12-2016 at 11:58 AM. |

Great idea for a thread but how about stealing the format in its entirety:
Eight discs (playback equipment is automatically assumed) A book (you automatically get the complete works of Shakespeare and The Bible or any other religious/philosophical tome of your choice) A luxury item which must be inanimate and have no ability to communicate with the world or be of any use in assisting escape. Discs: The Terminator, Videodrome, Kikujiro, Apocalypse Now, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, Goldfinger, Theatre Of Blood, Up. These are simply the films I enjoy most and have the most replay value not necessarily the best discs. I'd like The Terminator with original Foley and TGTBATU made from the RHV disc with original English sound. Book: Raymond Chandler Farewell, My Lovely Luxury: Hine Cognac To get you in the mood here's Eric Coates' marvellous music used as the radio series theme |

In the true desert island scenario I would prefer to take a hard drive with lots of movies on it with me and a player with solar power charger.
Now, given this is a hypothetical but still keeping in mind the desert island vibe, I'll take along with me: Day of the Dead (1985): it combines zombies with a tropical soundtrack. Mulholland Drive (2001): it combines great cinema with even greater nudity. Apocalypse Now (1979): it combines great cinema and I'd probably turn into Colonel Kurtz anyway on a desert island. |
