Default UPDATED: My laptop (HD DVD based) plays BD - Now, Blu-ray is INTERNAL

Here's the result of the ignorant of HP by making decision not to include BD in its consumer line laptop.... I bought BD Drive off ebay. It works on my laptop. Haven't installed internally though. The screw stuck and I need a superglue to take it out.

TAKE THAT, HD DUD!!!

seems that I got to buy some epoxy to take that stuck screw out, thus taking out the HD DVD drive.

The costs:
laptop £1550
BD-RE drive £262
screwdriver: £4 (?)

and now, I seems to need either thread compound or epoxy to get the screwdriver stick to the stuck screw. I don't know the price, but I am going to plumbing store to get one. Hopefully it's open this saturday, so I can get that BD drive working. I felt I can't enjoy this new laptop fully until that HD DVD drive is out of the laptop case.

On Mac?? It depends on the location of the screw, how many screw needs to be removed, compatibility of pins (toshiba and asus laptop are normally incompatible with the other drives). Don't try, unless you know what to do.

giyomu, I guess your name is Guillaume aka William
Sony est tres cher. Tu voudrais essayer Dell, peut-etre (Dell XPS M1730) ou fais que je vais faire a mon ordinateur.
Sony's too expensive. You might want to try Dell (Dell XPS M1730) or do what I am going to do to my computer.

LOL this is funny but it would be funnier if you had a Toshiba laptop and did that. Then send photos to Toshiba!

unfortunately, toshiba's laptop has different connector than standard laptops (along with asus). the others are the same.
Except if you want to play it externally. Seems the problem is getting bigger. I think I'll get off this forum for a while.
New laptop, lots of trouble. That is HD DVD. Trouble because I would not have a peace in mind until I got that HD DVD out. I am sending it back to HP for repair. Never used it for internet yet. My old laptop is still my main computer

it is fully functional, though

Can I buy your HD DVD drive off of you? I mean I know it'll surprise everyone but I happen to collect both formats and I would like to have the ability to watch HD DVD's on my laptop from time to time.

It's great that you're able to watch Blu-rays on your laptop w_tanoto, now you just need a good camera to take decent pictures with instead of the fuzzy ones you've been showing us.

I can't. If i did this, I will lose warranty. Even the internal one will be BD drive, I will need to swap when service is needed to the computer, with the original drive.

HD-DVD drives are cheap for laptops, if you find one on Ebay can you let me know? Also how long is your warranty? Some computers it is only a year or 2. So at the end can I buy it off of you? I found 2 on Ebay for about 150 dollars which is uberlly cheap, it's just that they are in Taiwan and I don't wanna buy out of the country to Asia. UK is one thing, but Asia? I think not....

found one on ebay. FYI, sorry , i never give up anything that is originally part of my computer. the warranty ends 1 year (even after that, when I need service, I was asked if I modified a thing. If I do, they can refuse my repair request - just like my old notebook, I was asked). I already planned to use it externally as DVD reader/writer/player (I will use BD drive internally only to play BD - prolonging its life). Besides, I think when the warranty ends, I will be in Indonesia.

if you want a cheap one, buy XBOX360 HD DVD add-on, connect it via usb cable

Been doing that xbox thing, however the PowerCord thing is a real drag. I was thinking of getting one of those toshiba drives with the Housing for the drive (External) and the idea of having one of the drives external could be very appealing. I mean I could build a desktop now and have blu ray with it, and save a few bucks maybe.... Just a thought.
