Default PS3 Slim Fan noise

I just recently upgraded my PS3 Fat to a slim because it would over heat and sound like a plane was in my living room. I want to make sure that my PS3 slim does not have the same thing happen. So now when ever I can hear the fan running on the slim makes me worried. I have it in a very well vented area on top of my TV stand. I am just wondering how much fan noise it should have or if I am just worrying to much about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my slim for 2 years and I've never heard the fan unless I mute everything and sit in a silent room

My slim runs much quieter than my fat PS3 did, even once it's been on a while. If you have it in a well ventilated area then it should be fine, unless it's faulty, which will probably be evident before the warranty runs out. Which, by the way, you can extend. After my fat PS3 got the YLOD, I was worried about my slim so I purchased the 2 year extension from Sony for $60. More than the fan, the disc reader and hard drive seems to run a bit louder when its reading a Blu-ray disc or DVD after you first insert it and it has to read the data, but that's totally normal too.

Besides the slim uses less power as well.

Thanks for the info. It is not very loud but I can hear the fan so I always wonder.

Well, it depends on how close you sit to it and how quiet your room is. I sit about 6 feet or so away from mine plus I have an air conditioner that's closer to me so the sound is always drowned out. Next time it gets loud, just touch the back area and see how it feels. Mine gets pretty warm, but never really hot.

Mine only got warm when I ran folding @ home I have my ps3 on a glass shelf next to my bed and I still really hear it unless I listen to it or it's loading a Bluray, or the Auto updates are on and I'm half sleep.

Strange that mine gets a bit warm and yours don't, but I also don't hear mine, at all, unless like you said it's loading a BD or updating.

It did use to get warmer then normal but that was part of the reason why I placed it on it's own glass shelf because papers on my desk would cover the exhaust of it.

Plus I like the location of it because in bed I can change the disc and all.. all I had to do was just buy a 15 Ft HDMI cable and I was all set.

The top of mine gets warm but never really hot. I sit about 10 feet from it.

Yeah the top wont get hot as long as you don't stack things on top of it like I did.

Don't know how much it actually helps but I also vacuum mine's vents once a month. Sony also recommends this, even though I had started before I found that out.

I had forgot about doing that just did and it helped I can't really hear the fan anymore.
