Default Audio Bitrates

I recently checked the audio bitrates of Indian releases of various movies and I found the bitrates a little low.
For example -

Iron Man 2 - Avg 4.7 mbps during the action sequence at Stark Expo never crossing 5 mbps

SPider-man 3 - Avg 3.5 mbps during the Harry/Peter air battle never crossing 4.5 mbps

Casino Royale - Average bitrate of 2.4mbps never crossing 3.4mbps during any action sequence.

These are bitrates of US releases-

Captain America - Avg 5.7mbps during any action sequence sometimes touch 6.7mbps

Are the bitrates really low for Indian releases or am I over-reacting? How much difference is 1mbps going to make?

Those bitrates are pretty average among most releases. 3-4 mbps is the norm.

The bitrate of lossless audio has nothing to do with quality, aside from indicating the compressibility of the source.

Right, 3-6 is about normal. Sometimes you'll see 7 or 8 if it's a loud action scene.

I never really saw the bitrates go over 6mbps. But lossless is lossless right? There is no such thing as one country having higher quality lossless audio than the other, right? I was worried I was gonna have to buy my blu-rays again.

Like the above poster said 3-4 is the average. Sometimes the bitrate might be in the low end because its encoded in a 16 bit track as opposed to 24 bit. Captain America has larger bitrate because its a 7.1 surround.

I don't know much about Indian discs, but it's possible that a disc released by one distributor might have 24bit audio, another might have 16bit, etc...

I'm actually worried about Avengers which someone told me has an average bitrate of 5.4 mbps(24bit). But as 42041 said, it doesn't determine the quality, only the compressibility, right?
