Has anyone else decided not to get rid of certain DVD's after upgrading to BD? I've decided to hang on to a number of DVD's mainly because they have more/different special features than the BD I've just bought.
The ones I'm not getting rid of just yet include: 4 disc Ben Hur 4 disc Titanic 4 disc Kingdom of Heaven (R1 Director's Cut) Toy Story 1 and 2 (10th Anniversary editions) Hope I am not alone here. |

I tried to get rid of a lot of my DVDs but it's harder then it seems. Best thing to do is do it in a garage sale which we recently had but by the time I thought to myself I should put some DVDs out most people had been and gone so only sold about 50 out of about 300 I put out. I just am sick of them all taking up so much room. I have about 2000 and look at them and think they really are worth nothing.
Some I am still keeping like my 4 disc Titanic, and my Narnia special editions. Also all my disney DVD. |

I have two DVD versions of Taxi Driver as well as the Blu. It's my favourite movie of all time and i just can't bear to part with any of them. Plus the Special Features are different on two out of the three releases.

Well, I know for sure I'll be keeping my Cross of Iron since they screwed up the colour on this one.
Frighteners & Gladiator 3 Disc, Indiana Jones (extras), and Star Wars (with originals) - obviously and my boxed sets of course: King Kong, & LOTR EE's (Autographed). ![]() |

I'm not getting rid of any of my DVDs anymore, just don't get enough money from them to make it worth the effort of listing them, then the seller fee.
Now I just turn my Blu-Rays into BD+DVD Combo packs, some/most DVDs have more special features, so it kind of makes them Special Editions too lol |

Some dvd's I've kept so far and why:
House of 1000 corpses The amazing animated menu. American Psycho I have the amazing looking Australian blu-ray release (convenient for me since I am Australian) which contains two audio commentaries a featurette and Deleted Scenes which aren't on the dvd release, however the dvd release contains the following special features that aren't on the blu-ray release: -Behind the Scenes featurette on the making of the movie with Cast and crew interviews -Isolated track of songs and John Cale's music score -Original movie trailer -Talent Profiles (hardly worth mentioning but the next is even worse...) -Picture Disc (I know, how lame is that. They counted the fact that the disc has artwork as a special feature!) Saw II My UK blu-ray release looks and sounds great and even contains a few special features not present on my dvd copy but the dvd contains a couple that aren't on the blu-ray too: -Audio Commentary with director Darren Lynn Bousman and stars Donnie Wahlberg and Beverley Mitchell -Storyboard to final film comparisons The Evil Dead 3-disc ultimate edition 2x audio commentaries. The blu-ray comes with an all new recorded one but doesn't include these two. Evil Dead 2 limited edition Anchor Bay tin -Evil Dead: Hail to the King Video Game Preview -48 Page 5" x 7" booklet featuring rare photos, film information and linear notes by Bruce Campbell Dawn of the Dead (1978) 4-disc ultimate edition While I own the 3-disc Arrow release that contains a good deal of special features, it doesn't contain everything among them is a comic book, map and... -Audio Commentary with Actors David Emge, Ken Foree, H. Reinger and Gaylen Ross (on the Argento Cut) -Poster and Advertising gallery -George A. Romero Bio -Comic Book Preview -International Poster and Advertising Gallery -International Pressbook Gallery -Home Video & Soundtrack Artwork -Dario Argento Bio -Monroeville Mall Commercial -Behind-the-scenes Photo Gallery -Memorabilia Gallery -Production Stills Night of the Living Dead (1990) Alright, I don't want to hear any jokes about this one. I know, apart from special features, this blu-ray contains a lot the dvd doesn't in terms of it's visual presentation. That stuff doesn't need to be pointed out :P But the dvd release does contain a couple of things the blu-ray does not: -"Making Of" Featurette: The Dead Walk -Filmographies (hardly even worth a mention but the fact is that it isn't on the blu-ray release) Cabin Fever -5x audio commentaries (that's right... FIVE). The blu-ray comes with an all new recorded one but the 5 that were on the dvd didn't make it to the blu-ray. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Due to the bizarre nature of the blu-ray+dvd release of this (the audio commentary is on the dvd version of the movie, not on the blu-ray), I opted for the cheaper, blu-ray only edition that doesn't contain the audio commentary which is already on the dvd I own. Marilyn Manson: Guns, God and Government World Tour The audio for this dvd is from the L.A show but the picture is cut up footage of plenty of different shows. The blu-ray release is just the L.A concert as a whole. The dvd version contains the same audio track but contains a completely different visual experience. Return of the Living Dead I got the marvelous UK steelbook release by Second Sight that contains Nearly 5 hours worth of bonus features aswel as a 20-page booklet not on the collectors edition dvd release, however the steelbook also doesn't contain the special features on that dvd release which are: -Audio Commentary with Cast, Crew and Undead -Audio Commentary with Director Dan O'Bannon and Production Designer William Stout -The Decade of Darkness featurette -Return of the Living Dead - The Dead have Risen featurette -Designing the Dead featurette -Zombie subtitles for the film Creepshow Now... I don't own the blu-ray YET but when I do, I won't be getting rid of my region 2, 2-disc special edition dvd release because all the blu-ray has is the theatrical trailer. In saying that, if a re-release or a UK release with all of them was announced, I would get rid of it. Until that day, I'm keeping it. This dvd release contains: -An audio commentary with George A. Romero and Tom Savini -"Just Deserts: The Making of Creepshow" (a feature length retrospective chock full of cast and crew interviews) -Deleted Scenes -Tom Savini's behind-the-scenes-footage -Still Galleries. Rosemarys Baby Like Creepshow, I don't own the Rosemarys Baby blu-ray yet, but unlike Creepshow, I intend to purchase it very soon. I won't get rid of my dvd though since I contains a couple of special features that don't appear to be on the new Criterion release (the dvd contains nothing from the Criterion release). Chances are whatever is in the special features on the dvd will probably be covered in the special features for the Criterion release in a more up to date manner, or even in the booklet for it but I'll still keep my dvd based on the fact that those specific special features weren't ported over to the Criterion release, and those special features are: -"Making of" Featurette -Exclusive retrospective interviews with Director Roman Polanski, Production Executive Robert Evans and Production Designer Richard Sylbert. Halloween 4 & 5 Again, I don't own these on blu-ray yet, but I will and I won't be getting rid of these divimax dvd's for the following special features: -Audio Commentary with Writer Alan B. McElroy (for Halloween 4) -The Making of Halloween 4: The Final Cut (for Halloween 4) -Introduction by stars Danielle Harris and Ellie Cornell (for Halloween 5 -Inside Halloween 5: Documenrary featuring rare behind the scenes footage, a cut scene and interviews with Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell, Don Shanks, Executive Producer Moustapha Akkad and Cinematographer Rob Draper (for Halloween 5) Last edited by deepbreathsanddeath; 10-26-2012 at 07:25 AM. |

To be honest, I'm not bothering very much with getting rid of my dvd's anymore. Like you guys have said, it's such a hassle and ultimately not really worth the time, energy and pay off. From time to time I'll put up an ad with a long list of dvd's I'm selling but most of the time nothing really happens. What I DO bother with, is selling tv shows if they're getting or already have a blu-ray release. The general public are still eager to buy tv shows on dvd and I really enjoy rewatching my tv series' so it makes the effort much more worth it. With movies, I tend to either just leave them as they are or make combo-packs aswel.

Tombstone (Because the Blu ray has only the theatrical version not the director's cut)
Criterion Collection version of Spartacus (again because Blu ray version doesn't have the director's cut, nor most of the special features) Kingdom of Heaven (Blu ray is pretty bare bones, lacking extras and director's cut) Things to Come, the Legend Films release (It's got a colour ver not available on Blu ray and audio commentary by Ray Harryhausen) Star Trek: The Motion Picture (once again Blu Ray version is lacking the director's cut) For other Blu rays that I still have on DVD as well, it's mainly the same reason others mentioned, not worth selling. |

I never thought about making my own BD+DVD Combo packs, thanks for the heads up guys. I can honestly say I have sold ever DVD I have replaced unless there are particular special features I want to keep of course. I literally don't have the space to keep doubles around any more. Every time I look at my DVDs it makes me angry that they are there, I avoid watching them at all costs but some of them are just simply not out on BD.
