I say that jokingly, but the idea is not funny. James Dean just got a big release or will be very soon. Monroe got her stuff pushed out recently. So far, Astaire has one showing in Easter Parade alongside Judy Garland. I am not counting that slap in the face release by Film Chest.
Some of his films are in the PD, that would be a nice place to start. We don't even hear rumors (for whatever they are worth) about Astaire movies coming out at all. We are really missing out on top-notch entertainment in the form of acting, storyline, film score, and of course mind-bending dancing from he and his partners. It will give us a fresh appreciation of his body of work. Some of the TCM broadcasts are fair, yet still very enjoyable. So if we can get a handful of above-average material, then we may be in for a new experience. |
