Default The Dark Knight Rises Box Office Thread

Ok, so i can't even begin to go back into the regular thread since i've gone on a media blackout so i'd rather kickstart this thread a bit early to focus on the financial side of things so i can at least keep in the discussions about the movie.

So, how does everybody else think this movies gonna do? I've already seen round the clock weekend slots even on a sunday in my local IMAX potentially to make a massive weekend haul. Has anybody else seen such a thing being done opening weekend?

How about the competition? Do you thinkt the other movies such as Avengers and Amazing Spiderman are gonna whet the audience appetites and make em real hungry to see another superhero blockbuster and have a effect much like Alice in Wonderland had after Avatar? (3D movies, but i mean there was more anticipation for the same tech)

I'm not sure how it's going to go tbh. I think Avengers records are looking firmly untouchable due to the not so inconsiderable box office premium you can get for 3D but potentially with round the clock showings off the bat and great word of mouth, we could see some close calls i guess.

Now discuss

PS - Can a mod please attach a poll when the appropriate time comes and feel free to modify this OP to reflect Box office takings as with other box office threads.

I think it matches Avengers, at least domestically in the U.S. It should surpass $1 billion in total box office, though the final total will heavily depend on whether people think it's a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. There are no surprises to the audience, as everyone has seen the first two movies.

The biggest issue with being an Avatar killer even for the Avengers was the fact Avatar had not only a long run in theatres but the fact that it also had an extended edition re-released into cinemas as well.

If Avengers released a extended cut into cinemas after the home thetre release i think it might get close and topple that number. The biggest thing holding back TDKR from smashing records was really the lack of 3D tbh. I don't know why he's quite against it, especially if he managed to do a native and coverted combination just like Cameron did, i would have almost no doubt this would trounce Avengers assuming it was just as good in quality as TDK or heck, even a notch above like we're all hoping.

Regardless of numbers though, Superhero fans have had the biggest damn fun since ever. Marvel now has a MCU thats already had it's Phase I and kicking into Phase II, DC has given us Nolan's Batman trilogy while we also had to contend with Green Lantern but i'd still rather watch Green Lantern than probably most early Marvel movies tbh and we'll be getting Man of Steel which hopefully sets up into a DCMU (DC movie universe) alongside GL.

Then we have also had Sony reboot Spiderman which i think is getting a bit of unfair criticism in some areas because when compared to its counterpart, some may think it's a helluva better first movie.

So, we now reach a truly golden era of superhero movies and it's just beginning to hot up. Can you imagine seeing all the superhero titles grouped right in the top 20

I think TDKR may crack the 10 box office worldwide figure.

Nah, sorry. Hulk trounces Batman but now if we we're talking about Superman

Tbh, the 3D or lack of it is the biggest handicap. I'm so interested in the numbers purely because this is the biggest non-3D release this year and if it can match or break Avengers, then that just instantly proves it was better received as a better movie by everybody.

Wouldn't be surprised if it cracked a $200 million opening, but I'm thinking around $175 million.

Domestic $500
Worldwide $1 billion

It will be very similar to TDK's numbers.
