Newegg has the Polk PSW505 for $199 right now and i was wondering if for that price it was a decent buy or no?

I have 2 of them , they are not bad. They are good starter subs. Wouldn't pay over $200 thats for sure. I paid $180 (Amazon last black friday )for one and $150 (local used) for the other.

They put out adequate bass for LFE in movies but they are not very musical, I find them a bit slow and rumbly for music(not much punch) I turn them off for music and run my mains full range with music. Also had to build "risers" to get the best out of them....but that is in my room....your room might be different.

I'll be replacing my 505s with some SVS subs when I can afford to.

You might want to check this thread https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=205417. They seem to be highly recommended for the price. More than this one, but if you can afford it.

I picked up a PSW505 from Amazon at that price. I think it does sound pretty nice, but I am coming from a HTiB from about 10 years ago. Which for the time sounded good. But once I upgraded my home theater my tiny Sony sub couldn't keep up with my speakers.

I haven't played a lot of music but movies sound really good with the 505. And it has a LFE In, which I hear is heard to find in this price range.

While I can't comment on this sub, I did take a look at your HT pics. I would suggest building a sub-riser, that may help with the "muddiness" you speak of. Worked wonders for me , mine was aweful "boomy" until I put my subs on risers. Sub Riser Thread
