My personal favorite Eddie Murphy flick. Loved it since I first saw it from back in the day.
One of the reasons I love the film so much is that it really does capture Eddie Murphy as the 'everyman in an extraordinary experience' factor. I can laugh at pretty much everything that Eddie does in the movie because of that. You're told a far out story and given a scroll. What does Eddie say? "This looks like a big joint. You just lick & smoke it...you know, I think you had two of these and you smoked one before you came up here. You need to stop smoking scrolls. Also, you better put this away before some Rastafarians steal it from you." You're in a car being chased by a demon, and the kid you're saving is a bit too calm. "Did someone slip you a valium or something? You're so calm, but me? I'm ready to shit all over myself!" You walk in and see a man change into a demon before your eyes aka your 'Sweet Brother Numsie!' "I can see you're busy right now. Come back another time." And many others like: "Only a man whose heart is pure can wield the knife, and only a man whose ass is narrow can get down these steps. And if mine's is such an ass, then I shall have it." Kee Nang: She's over 300 years old. Eddie Murphy's character: How do you manage something like that? Kee Nang: One of her ancestors was raped by a dragon. Eddie Murphy's character: Does that happen a lot where you come from? And of course: "I, I, I Want the Kniiiiife!" I'll never understand why this film doesn't have a Blu-Ray release. Despite what some say online, it wasn't a box office bomb. It just didn't make As Much as the previous flick Beverly Hills Cop. But it still made about $80 million, which even many films today can't make that much. I think it's a great comedy, and the only reason I can think of as to why this flick has no Blu-Ray is because of the studio. Paramount is almost the worst studio when dealing with Blu-Rays. This, the original April Fool's Day, The Hunted with Tommy Lee Jones...all Paramount flicks with no Blu-Rays. Last edited by ramboraph; 07-09-2018 at 06:32 AM. |
