Default Panny 50ST50 problem

Noticed a little while ago on my screen there's this very red line going down my screen. Now I thought it might be comcast, so I turned on my BR player and still see it.

The panel is bad. If you have a warranty for it, get it replaced. If you don't, get the ST60 and get a warranty with it.

I agree. This happened to my Pioneer and it was still under warranty so they had to replace the whole panel. Never had a problem since.

They're going to replace the panel with a brand new one (not a new tv mind you). You don't have to worry about getting another set. I feel everything will work out for you in the end. Good luck

I had a issue with my old Samsung LCD years ago with image retention (it would get it after a few seconds) and they replaced the panel with a new one.

I'm no expert on this, but I did mine. I think ( not sure) that the panel is what needs to be broke in the most.

Correct ... in essence you are "conditioning" the panel's phosphors when you are doing a "break in".

okay, so the phosphors are actually in the panel. Wasn't sure how plasmas were actually built.

Maybe I'll properly break it in this time. I did for most of the break in period.

You should use your google-fu and look up D-Nice Panasonic break in slides. Those break in slides should give you a effective break in for that replacement panel.

that's what I have. When I did it the first time, the first couple of days I didn't realize that the settings in the photo section were different. So I was using slides at 100% contrast along with the other regular settings that were on there.

Plus I was watching a widescreen movie here and there.

I then realised that the line had appeared after i made some alterations to my HDMI set-up.
I fiddled with the HDMI connections and it fixed it!
I then noticed that the distance into the screen the line existed is the EXACT point that the HDMI contacts are on the rear of an ST50. I didn't find this a coincidence.
I was offered a replacement (almost 1 month later) but decided to keep it as the problem hadn't recurred and i was reading about all sorts of other banding issues with this plasma model that my TV wasn't suffering with so i didn't want to risk a replacement with those issue.

I'm not saying your problem is the same as what i had but it looks the same and is in the exact same place. Try just switching an HDMI connection or 2. May solve it.
Unfortunately you might already have some permanent lasting burn in problems from that line now though even if you can fix it if it's been displaying it for any amount of time. I was fortunate and nearly 18 months on i still love my ST50 and have not had a problem since.
It's appearing on all the HDMI's and Component Video.

To me I thought it was because I had just hooked up the Optic Audio cable to the back. Realized I didn't need it so I unhooked it. Then I noticed it a little while later watching Hangover III OnDemand (Component). But yeah, the Optic Audio slot is around that same spot too
It stays there even adjusting the aspect ratio's

But thanks for the advice.

So, its been a month and these guys finally came to check the tv. The guy said, most likely they'll replace the tv. Panasonic doesn't replace panels anymore apparently?

Perhaps they'll give you a ST60 (since the 50 is no longer being made)?

You may even get a VT60 if your retailer has no ST60s in stock...there are none at Panasonic warehouses.

the guy that was here said they have a 60in. He thinks its the ST but wasn't sure. I don't know if its the 50 or 60, but he said it's on sale for $1000.

It's more than likely a ST60. A 60" ST60 for $1000 is a steal (unless it's S60 which in that case, you're losing 3D or a UT50 which does have 3D but it's a slight step below the ST series).

I'm wondering if he was mentioning it because that's what they can't get another 50ST50. A 60ST50 or 60 would be nice.

the UT is just the glossy screen I believe. Pic quality is the same?
