Question Why is my blu-ray movie widescreen?

i have those black bars, sorry if this was asked before, looked and couldnt find anything.
my POTC #1 has black bars.

Keep in mind black bars are GOOD. The "wide" ratio presentation of the film is how it was filmed (like all movies). If you had the standard view without the bars (4:3) then the sides of the movie get chopped off to compensate.

Also keep in mind almost every single HD tv is widescreen.
