It's certainly a good deal if the unit works. I have the same unit - make sure the front panel display is functioning - hook up something to each outlet bank (switched and unswitched) and see if the voltmeter and ammeter measurements look correct. You could also plug something into the USB plug to see if it's charging. That should cover most of the electronics...

I have this unit and if you can pick one up for $200, that is a great deal. I recommend you go pick up a Receptical Tester from any hardware store (only a couple bucks) and test each plug to make sure everything is ok. If you've never seen one before, it looks like this:

As long as none of the recepticals come up bad, you should be good to go.

What should the boot meter and ammeter measurements read and can I hook up a small radio to it or should it be a tv or something

Voltmeter should be showing 120V +/- a few, and the ammeter should show "something" changing when you hook up a device and turn it on. A work lamp or anything small (easy to carry there) with a motor would do the trick nicely. I wouldn't worry about whether the readings or correct or not - just that they appear to work. As long as there's a display, and the ammeter shows a non-zero current draw when you turn something on will be good enough. Small radios may not pull enough current to register much.

The pawn shop should be full of small appliances with motors or heaters - an iron, can opener, desk fan, etc. any of those would tell you it's working.

Good luck, and I hope after two weeks that it's still there!

Jeff
