United Kingdom Les Miserables : The Staged Concert

Acccording to Film On Stage, Universal is releasing Les Miserables : The Staged Concert in the UK on April 6th, 2020.

There is a listing on Amazon.co.uk but it doesn't accept pre-orders yet.

"Seen by over 120 million people worldwide, LES MISÉRABLES is undisputedly
one of the world’s most popular musicals. Coinciding with its 35th triumphant year
in London’s West End, Cameron Mackintosh produced a spectacular sell-out
staged concert version at the Gielgud Theatre featuring an all-star cast including
Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Lucas and John Owen Jones.
Now experience the musical phenomenon at home, after it broke box office records
and sold out its entire 16 week season. Featuring a cast and orchestra of over 65
and including the songs I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home, One Day More and
On My Own this sensational staged concert is not to be missed - an absolute
must-see for any fans of musical theatre or live event cinema."

Got excited as thought it was the 10th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall which was also staged. Would love to see that on BD.

A friend was in the audience. She and her husband were massive fans as used to see it every year in the West End.

I know that was very early recorded in widescreen for future TV broadcast but not sure if the recording was HD or SD. If even upscaled from HD would love the audio which is what matters in lossless assuming the music tracks exist.

Hadn’t heard of this concert so may check it out next year.

This is the third Concert. 10th anniversary, 25th and now 35th. Some of the same cast from the 25th are in the 35th. This also played in North American movie theaters on December 8 and 11. Tickets (at least in Madison) were $19. Unfortunately, I didn't see it. I will definitely buy the blu-ray.

The one thing still missing is a filmed production of the stage play itself.

Michael Ball was in all 3 concerts and in the original cast.

My wife would gladly sacrifice me to the theatre gods to make this happen.

I've seen the video that was released for streaming in 1080P and the image was pretty flat and non-dynamic. I used the HDR Effect setting on my OLED TV and that made the image really pop with no real loss in quality. I would hope that the Blu-ray would be the same. Amazon UK's site is saying that the Blu-ray is region free but that it cannot be shipped to the US. Maybe it will show up on Ebay at some point. That's where I got my Blu-ray of the West End production of Miss Saigon a couple of years ago.

The shipping to US block is a generic Amazon UK block in that currently they won’t ship anything to North America only UK and Europe.
Is because they say they don’t have capacity for international shipping with lockdown restrictions.

Same applies in reverse Amazon US won’t ship to UK or Europe currently either.

On Les Mis seems strange they kept to the original release date for the digital version but the DVD and BD delayed by Universal 6 months until November. Only reason I can think is because they think most sales will come from people buying as Christmas presents. However that needs this stocked in Supeemarkets and the HMV stores reopened.

Watched the Australian DVD. Still not a fan of the 2008 arrangements that have been used for the last decade at virtually all professional performances, but it's probably the only one of the five recorded concerts that could probably be somewhat approachable for someone who's never read the book or seen the musical before. The Tenth Anniversary Dream Cast recording is still the one I'm partial to, but I could see myself using this one to actually introduce someone to the musical. It's certainly a better introductory tool than the 2012 film.

Not true anymore, they do ship to Europe at least since a few weeks...

If anyone's interested, it seems this was stealth-released in America digitally at some point in the last month. It's not a bad way to watch the musical, if you're interested in checking it out.

Does anyone have the Bluray and is it region free? I have never been able to view the back of the case. Thanks for any information.

Mine is on the way, but I'm in the US, so I'm not sure how long it'll take to get here. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Thanks so much. I'm in the US as well. I've seen conflicting specs on the bluray and I don't have a region free player for that although I do have an older DVD player that can be used for other regions so I may end up getting the DVD.

It's interesting that there is an HD download for US but no US discs.

I ordered it from Amazon UK on March 18 and I'm still waiting for it to ship, five days since the release date. In my account it says I should receive it between November 13-17 but I have my doubts.

My wife and I watched it on Amazon Prime awhile back and it's pretty great. Maybe the best of the three concerts.

This is what it said on Amazon UK when I ordered it and it still says that on the order in my account:

Les Misérables: The Staged Concert [Blu-ray] [2019] [Region Free]

However, it doesn't say "region free" on the item page now.

But it is Universal so it most likely is region free.

Yeah, this has been a weird release. I ordered it so long ago that I totally forgot and was surprised to get a shipping notice.

I can't wait to watch it. I was tempted to stream it at one point, but told myself to just be patient. Then I just forgot about it.
