Default How early of an early adopter are you?

Well I didn't get an HDTV when they first came out, but I did get a Philips CRT 1080i HDTV when they were a good price at Best Buy. AND it has one HDMI port.

Beat that.

Were there any early HDTVs with DVI and not HDMI?

I edited my first post. It has one HDMI.

DVI is without audio. HDMI is DVI plus an audio signal.

DVI is a digital, HDCP compatible interface that only carries a video signal

HDMI is a digital, HDCP enabled interface that carries both video and audio

HDMI has higher bandwidth

Are you sure? This site says that DVI and HDMI are the same, video-wise:

"First, to clear away one element that can be confusing: DVI and HDMI are exactly the same as one another, image-quality-wise. The principal differences are that HDMI carries audio as well as video, and uses a different type of connector, but both use the same encoding scheme, and that's why a DVI source can be connected to an HDMI monitor, or vice versa, with a DVI/HDMI cable, with no intervening converter box. "

That's not talking about HDMI 1.3.

My Comcast HD box has a DVI output. I use a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to my HD TV.

Am I misunderstanding the post, or are you trying to find the earliest someone got an HDTV? I got my first in 2001, Toshiba 56" projo. I've had 3 since that, I had a Mitsubishi 73513, a Toshiba 62h84 and I now have a Samsung HL-s6187w. Trying to work my way back up to a 70" Sony XBR one of these days.

HDMI didn't come onto the market until 2000, so the earliest HDTV's would not have had it.

As for DVI to HDMI, the image quality can be the same, but HDMI is capable of higher bandwidth.

HDMI 1.0 to HDMI 1.2 = 4.6 Gbps
HDMI 1.3 = 10.2 Gbps

PS - it should be "a warly adopter" not "an warly adopter"

I can't get 1080p except through the HDMI conncetion. So I would say it is better for me. My model was one of the first 1080p models. The next ones had a cable card interface and were using an LED light engine instead of a bulb like on mine. Obsolete? Nope it looks great but it is not cutting edge any longer.

64 Inch Hitachi HD capable TV with no DVI or HDMI outputs. 540p and 1080i is its best resolution. It is also a projection CRT. My PS3 doesn't look that great on it so I leave that at my girlfriends house. She has a smaller 37" LCD 720p with a much higher contrast ratio. We got the old hitchi from CC when I was in like eighth grade. Now I am an employee there.

I suppose I am a VERY early adopter. I've been through...

A 60" Sony 1080i CRT rear projection set, long before anything was really available in HD

A 50" Samsung 720p DLP set that replaced the Sony.

A 32" Sony 1080i CRT set for my second room.

A 55" Sony 1080p SXRD set that replaced the Samsung DLP.

A 40" Sony 1080p LCD set that replaced the Sony CRT in the second room.

Holding off on getting a BD player until the PS3 was released was brutal hell for me. I wanted one so bad... fortunately, I got a PS3 on launch day so it wasn't TOO much of a delay.

Got my TV back in 03 1080i 42" Sony LCD rear projection, no HDMI only DVI and Component. I use DVI with the PS3.

And got my PS3 in December of 06, just went to Gamestop and asked, and they had one, and took it home. This is when still they were being sold in Ebay for 1000 plus, lol.

Don't care.

Want to be an early adopter for the DIVX re-evolution? I have a couple DIVX players in storage somewhere.

I'll throw in a copy of Paulie and Hard Rain.

Didn't get a plasma on launch day, but got it within a year when they're sold. Paid an incredible amount (in hindsight) of money for a 42" set that really was terrible (in hindsight), native resolution of (1024x512 [or 1024x1024 interlaced]).

It died in 5-6 years and replaced it with a 50" plasma that was 1/4 the price.
