Timo Tjahjanto to Helm The Beekeeper 2

Miramax and The Meg action hero Jason Statham are officially reteaming on the action sequel The Beekeeper 2. What’s more exciting is that, per Deadline, The Shadow Strays and Nobody 2 filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto has been set to direct.

Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the first film, is back to pen the screenplay. Production is set to begin this fall.

No sequel plot details as of yet, but The Beekeeper followed “a retired clandestine human intelligence operative who sets out for revenge after his kind-hearted landlady becomes the victim of a phishing scam that steals millions of dollars from a charity she runs.”

The first film became a $152.7M global hit when released in theaters last January. David Ayer (Suicide Squad) helmed the 2024 release, and the studio aims to bring the filmmaker back for the sequel in producing capacity.

I liked the movie overall despite some obvious cheese but i can't say the world seems to offer much in the way to explore. It reminds me of The Equaliser i suppose with a reskin and Statham.

Who loves sequels more, Johnson or Statham? In terms of quantity, it's Stallone, but not variety.

In the sequel, please have Statham get more screen time than the mail villain. Beekeeper 1 was interesting, but Statham should've had a lot more screen time. More of the film is spent with the villain or other characters. Usually it's reverse where the villain gets less screen time because he's the one the audience is not rooting for. Reminded me of Batman Returns with Penguin being the star, then Catwoman, then Shreck. Then a smaller role for Batman, the star.

In addition to Transporter 1 2 and 3, which would be his trademark franchise for Statham I'll say. Transporter 1 launching his career pretty much.

I thought the first one was the worst movie I saw in 2024, I absolutely hated it. So of course it gets a sequel lol.

Only movies I dislike end up getting sequels.
