Does anybody who owns this set have any audio issues? I've played both the English version and the Italian version with English subtitles and the audio is out of sync. It's not like that the whole movie but each of these three films have moments where the audio is a bit off.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've been meaning to post about this for a while but I keep forgetting about it. I can't believe there wasn't a thread created for this set yet. |

She probably spoke in Italian, since Europe 51 is a foreign Italian movie. She was capable of speaking Italian, so there wouldn't be a reason why the director would want her to speak English in a Italian movie, when she knew how to speak the native Italian language, which is why the movie has English subtitles, so that the American audiences could read and understand the film, if they didn't know the language.

Italian films were mostly post-synched in this period (and later). What is really the original audio is then up to you... You could have actors speaking in different languages at the shoot, and the Italian version was recorded in a studio later.

She was dubbed. She recorded her dialog and spoke in english while Italian actors wouldve recorded theirs in Italian.

Yes. You can tell when a voice over is done by another person, when the voice doesn't match or sound like the original actress or actor in the movie.

No good. I spent aeveral minutes messing around with my Denon audio sync setting trying to speed up or slow down audio to have lips match voices but now I see why it was of no use. |

For most (if not all?) Italian movies of that era, they didn’t have access to good microphones for on-set filming, so all the audio came in post. You even see this going into the 1960s with 8 1/2 as an example.

Journey to Italy is meant to be seen in English.
In Stromboli, she plays a Lithuanian character that ends up on a remote Italian island and struggles to communicate with and interact with the locals. In the English version of the film, that comes across in a much more satisfying way. Although I believe Bergman did dub herself in the Italian version too. I have not seen Europe/Europa 51 yet.
