Default Top 20

What does your top 20 for 80s horror look like?? In order if you can

I would have to go

Nightmare on Elm Street Original
Lost Boys
The Burbs
The Monter Squad
The Thing
Day of the Dead
Beetlejuice
Poltergeist
Nightmare on Elm Street 3
Gremlins
The Gate
Child's Play
Friday the 13th
Evil Dead 2
The Blob
The Howling
Pumpkinhead
Creepshow
Prince of Darkness
Friday the 13th Part 4

I like plenty more from the 80s but for the most part, these 20 cover the ones I really would call favorites. Fright Night would be nice to fit in here instead of Friday the 13th the Final Chapter, but I just can't quite do it. Stuff like Sleepaway Camp, the Burning, all of Stephen Kings stuff, the rest of Carpenter and Craven's work from the 80s etc I really enjoy but can't quite call any of it my favorite. I'm sure I'm leaving out a couple but this mostly covers it.

I tried to only include horror films, and siphoned off any straight-up giallo and straight-up exploitation films, just to make this manageable.

The Shining
Suspiria
The Beyond
Cannibal Ferox
The New York Ripper
House by the Cemetery
Eaten Alive!
City of the Living Dead
Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter
Maniac
The Burning
My Bloody Valentine
Cat People
Clownhouse
Pumpkinhead
Macabre
The Thing
Terror Train
Scanners
Cannibal Holocaust
Yea I should have named it something different but I assume most people drag their mouse over the thread title to see what the first line says.

I love how different your list is than mine. I haven't seen Macabre, Cannibal Holocaust, Cat People, or Maniac on your list. I love Suspiria, loved Stage Fright, and thought Phenonema was O.K, but other than that I can't quite get into the Italian stuff. I also can't quite get into Cronenberg's films like scanners. Also I didn't think much of Terror Train the first time or two I saw it, though it was kinda fun. Might have to give that one another go.

We have very similar tastes...Only movie on your list I don't own is Maximum Overdrive. Also haven't quite fallen in love with Critters yet but from what I've seen, it has it's moments.

No Hellbound: Hellraiser II on anyone's list? That's probably the one 80s horror movie I revisit the most. I guess the original has a tighter story, but the sequel is just wonderfully bizarre and I love every minute of it. Not to mention the score by Christopher Young is amazing.

The rest of my list is pretty similar to everyone else, so I won't bother with it. There is a low-budget movie called "The Pit" that I'd recommend if your into offbeat 80s horror. I haven't seen it few several years, but it left an impression. In fact, I might watch the DVD again tonight.

Here are my favorites from the 80's

Gremlins
Fright Night
Alien
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Child's Play
Pet Semetary
Creepshow
Monster Squad
Critters
The Gate
The Lost Boys
Poltergeist
Predator
Split Second
Night Of The Demons
Suspiria
The Shining
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Maximum Overdrive
Ghostbusters (not sure if this even counts since it really is a comedy )

Yes I do realize this list is pretty much identical to most so far! What can I say, the 80's had alot of great horror flicks that most people will always agree on

Suspiria was released in '77. If it was from the 80s, it would have been at the top of my list.

Yeah, I had a feeling it was from the 70's, I had noticed it on a few other lists and was too lazy to confirm that age of it.

I'm definitely going to have to put Night of the Creeps on my list.
