Dear Bob Iger,
I have a proposal for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment: to issue and release, for the first time EVER on DVD, "The Duck Factory: The Complete Series," a loving showcase of all 13 half-hour episodes of the short-lived 1984 sitcom "The Duck Factory" 100% Complete, 100% Uncut, AND 100% Unedited, just the way that each episode originally aired on the NBC Television Network. Created by Allan Burns & Herbert Klynn, "The Duck Factory" aired for 13 weeks on NBC from April 12, 1984 - July 11, 1984, initially airing Thursday nights at 9 P.M. ET on NBC after "Cheers" before moving to Wednesday nights at 9 P.M. ET in June 1984 after summer reruns of "The Facts of Life"; despite its short run, the show is notable for being Jim Carrey's first role in a major Hollywood production, fresh out of Toronto, Canada by way of Newmarket, Canada. In the show, Jim Carrey starred as Skip Tarkenton, a Midwesterner fresh out of Minnesota who came to Hollywood to work for his idol, Buddy Winkler, who unbeknownst to him had just died--and whose funeral his soon-to-be colleagues were attending, among them Brooks Carmichael (Jack Gilford), a veteran artist and animator whom Skip had been a life-long huge fan of; Marty Fenneman (Jay Tarses), a Comedy Writer (as Jay Tarses is in real life); sarcastic editor Andrea Lewin (Nancy Lane); Aggie Aylesworth (Julie Payne), Buddy's Business Manager; Roland Culp (Clarence Gilyard, Jr.), the young storyboard artist; and the voice of "Dippy Duck," Buddy Winkler Productions' main cartoon character, Wally Wooster (Don Messick, who in real life had done many a cartoon voices himself such as Scooby Doo, Boo Boo Bear and Hamton J. Pig in "Tiny Toon Adventures" among many others until his sudden 1996 Retirement after a Massive Stroke; he eventually died a year later of a second Massive Stroke). As I'm sure you know, after the end of "The Duck Factory," Jim Carrey joined the cast of the Keenan Wayans created Comedy-Variety show "In Living Color," which had a fairly short run on FOX from April 15, 1990 - May 19, 1994, after which Jim became a major Box Office Sensation with such hits as "The Mask," "Ace Ventura," "Dumb and Dumber," "The Truman Show" and more. And it's that reason alone, Bob, that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (bannered as 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment) shall issue and release, for the first time ever on DVD, "The Duck Factory: The Complete Series" on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at a cost of $19.99 wherever DVDs are sold. Thanks you very much in advance for reading, Bob Iger. Sincerely, Steve Arino |
