The Toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD or the Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray player?

the HD-A1, barely.

Cnet gave the bdp1000 a 6.6 and the HDA1 a 6.7

IMO it's tough to judge players on picture quality unless you have identical test footage for both. So it's a tough call until we have the same flick on the same codec etc. for both.

The HDA1 has had 3 firmware updates, and apparently samsung has said one is comming for theirs based on picture quality NR being activated.
