Hi: I'm going to replace my D-link DIR-655 very soon as with now using the following devices: PC,PS3(streaming from netflix),Ipad 3, Laptop, sometimes 2 or more of these items it seems really is no longer able to do the job(If I'm using say my CPU(On youtube) and have a person using anything else listed above the youtube video's really lag to the point I go off the net, conversely if I'm the only person using the network it runs just fine. Will be upgrading the network card using a D-link DWA-552 (I think that is the model number?)Here are what has been recommended so far what do you think? Thanks for the help!!

I had a D-Link DIR-615 (I think that was the model) that recently died on me, and I replaced it just last week with an Asus RT-N56U and seems to be working great so far. Not sure what the difference is between my model and the RT-N66U.

I just bought a WD My Net N900. It is a dual band one (2.4 and 5.0) with 7 gigabit ports.
I also am on Delta Cable 40mps. Seems to work great for the family. Only issue with it, is that it stops working every now and then and I have to unplug, reset it again. Searching the web, it seems to be a firmware issue. |

How much do you know and how much do you want to spend. Personally its Cisco or bust for me, I have a 2600 Firewall with a 3500 XL switch in my house an a Linksys wireless router for wireless only but most people have no idea how to do the configs on them. Yes I know its overkill but hey its fun to have and I got the stuff for free.
At this point Linksys was bought out and is made by Cisco which in my opinion are the best company for routers and switches. The big question is are you going to need remote access and VPN capabilities if so then your going to need a router that can handle all that. You probably also will need individual as well as ranged port blocking for the kiddies which all Linksys routers have. |
