A few efforts were made to get Firefly back or a new Serenity movie over the past 5 years. After Nathan Fillion mentioned that if he won the lottery he would buy the rights to the show and put in on the internet, some folks started the Help Nathan Buy Firefly group - on facebook and a website helpnathanbuyfirefly.com
Fox Network, that owns the rights, said they would not sell. Fillion told fans to not send him any money and discouraged the idea. But fans rallied at Facebook gaining a hundred and thirteen thousand members. The admin that started the group, with experience in fund raising, focused the group to not donating any money, but asked how much they would pledge to getting Firefly back on the air. The idea that if enough fans contribute there may be avenue's for licensing and funding production for the show to continue. I've been a fan of the show since the movie came out and followed all the efforts to bring it back. This one seems the most intriguing. |
