Braveheart. I've never watched Patriot because of lukewarm reviews from critics and family and friends. I'll eventually watch it and decide how good, or bad, it is.

I think you will be surprised. I think Patriot had a bigger impact on me during my first viewing. There is a resonance that really works.

Braveheart is a better overall movie but both are above average.

I agree here - Patriot is freeging awesome. But then again, so is Braveheart.

This poll doesnt work, lol. Both are super-great movies that I'll watch over and over until I go blind or die.

Braveheart was directed and stars Mel Gibson.

Patriot was directed by Roland Emmerich, but stars Mel Gibson.

Depending on how much Mel you like, Braveheart exudes it.

Braveheart has lost some of it's luster with me over the years.

But I always thought The Patriot sucked ass.

...so I'll go with Braveheart by default.

Easily Braveheart. Braveheart was my favorite movie for a long time, and even though it has lost some luster for me, it will always be a sentimental favorite of mine. I remember being very disappointed with the Patriot even though it isn't a bad movie. Mainly because during the promotion for the movie, Mel was saying it was BETTER than Braveheart and actually had a far more richer story. I think it would have been much better if Mel had directed it and some other actor had been in the leading role.

Braveheart, because is one of the most well directed and well shot movies of all time. What Mel Gibson does here is astounding. There's plenty of exciting battle scenes and legit emotional instances. The cinematography is terrific. You really feel like you're in Scotland, admiring its beautiful and brutal world. A lot of endearing authenticity is also thanks to great acting and costume designs as well. It's hard to find a war film that's so focused and emotionally driven as this one. The only flaw I have is that there's a love scenario that develops towards the end of the movie that's totally unnecessary and even takes away from some other emotional tendencies that occur earlier in the film. But it's hard not to get swept up in the grand spectacle that's known as a masterpiece. This is one that shouldn't be missed.

Braveheart as The Patriot was just a Braveheart in a different time period. Same movie really.
