Default Movies Made More Bearable on Blu-Ray

So here I am, watching one of my least-favorite 007 movies On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Right off the bat, I was floored by it. Not only because it looks so sharp and clean, but I was really catching onto the nuances of each scene's camera composition, details, editing, and actors' performances. Above all, I always thought this film looked gaudy on DVD, especially since the opening scenes had a weird purple tinge to it; the colors look much more natural on BD.

So it got me thinking, which other movies did I hate that I found more bearable on Blu-Ray. A few others for me were Spawn, Mad Max, and the original Dawn of the Dead. I don't know why, but watching these films I originally disliked were actually better for me when viewed in decent high-quality video.

How about anybody else? Do you find certain movies more likable/bearable in high-def, as opposed to lower quality?

when was the last time you viewed these movies?

I can't say Blu-ray has made any films I didn't like bearable but it does enhance the ones I do like.

Well, the difference between my first time viewing and Blu-Ray viewings for all these movies would have probably been somewhere between 3 - 7 years. Chances are that I would have warmed up to them a bit on DVD, but Blu-Ray hits me a little more because it's so sharp and clear.

It just seems to me that good presentation can make even a mediocre movie pleasant to watch.

I certainly agree that Blu-Ray quality does enhance the experience for movies I already enjoy.

That is a long time between viewings. Perhaps it isn't so much the blu-ray but your wiser age and maybe changed standards.

I'm 30 and I can honestly say that in the last 2 years or so, I have really been able to watch/enjoy all sorts of movies and music that I could never tolerate. I credit this to me maturing more.

Exactly. I'm the same. I am 29 and recently watched, The PIanist, Martha Macy May Marlene, We need to talk about Kevin. I never would have watched those 5 years a go. Let alone enjoyed 2 of the 3.

Jennifers Body. I would hate it on DVD.

Knowing/Next. I would consider them mediocre without the visual stunning and good audio aspects of blu-ray.

Right now I consider Swordfish to be unbearable to watch.

Even though when DVD started I praised it, its unacceptable the movie isn't re-relesed with new transfer and lossless. With Swordfish reference reviewed it would be one of my favorites on Blu-ray.

More..
[Show spoiler]Blade Runner (I feel it's lackluster without high def)
V for Vendetta (hearing the tone of Weaving in that is emphasized so well by lossless)
The Phantom (really a spectacle movie with not much depth, so needs blu-ray)
Crimson Tide (I finally felt the tension because of the clarity and detail of blu-ray)

I think Blu-ray makes just about every movie a little bit more bearable.
