Default Vietnam movies

so, for whatever reason, my g/f recently decided that she was in the mood to watch a few war movies, specifically about Vietnam...

being that i only have a few Vietnam movies in my collection, i chose the following to be showed in order...

#1 - "Full Metal Jacket" - the first half of the movie takes place in boot camp, where human beings are turned into soldiers, and ends w/
[Show spoiler]what is presumably Joker's first kill (albeit a dying woman begging to be put out of her misery)

#2 - "Platoon" - tells the story of a "grunt" new to the war & trying to cope w/ the atrocities & injustices inherent in such an undertaking...

#3 - "Apocalypse Now" - takes place once the fatigues & madness of war have begun to sink in & how an experienced soldier deals w/ such in ways both good & evil

#4 - "Born on the Fourth of July" - the second Oliver Stone Vietnam drama in the series, while it tells the true story of a young man going to war, also explores the trials & tribulations that veterans faced once returning home...

so that was the best i could do w/ what i have available... just curious which other Vietnam movies are deemed essential (i can name quite a few, but don't own them), and where you would place them in the sequence...

oddly enough, that was her first choice to watch, but she wanted to watch a "war movie," which i don't feel "Forrest Gump" really is, so i'm looking for movies that pertain mainly to the Vietnam war, but thanks for playing!

"Casualties of War" is a great Vietnam flick. Not on Blu, unfortunately. "The Deer Hunter" is an epic, though it only has a few Vietnam sequences (much like "Born On The Fourth of July").

Rescue Dawn, probably after Platoon? I'm not sure where to place it, as I haven't even seen FMJ or Platoon yet 0_o

As much as I like these Go Tell the Spartans is the most accurate Vietnam war film ever made. Having a best friend that served three tours in Vietnam made me realize that most Vietnam films are pure Hollywood.

I'd nominate WE WERE SOLDIERS if for no other reason than it has a distinctly different political slant than the movies on your current list. You seem to have a collection of disenfranchised, amoral, dope-smoking misfit, misguided killer movies.

Go Tell the Spartans is extremely good.

84 Charlie MoPic is another Vietnam film that's never gotten nearly the attention it deserves.

^^^This. You can't beat Burt Lancaster! Have you tried Hamburger Hill among the others mbrs have listed up above. Another one is Seige At Fire Base Gloria ( it has R. Lee Ermey from FMJ in it )......if you can find it. There is also The Green Berets with John Wayne.

Yep, I still have the DVD of Hamburger Hill. I also have The Siege of Firebase Gloria. It came on about a year and a half ago on MGM HD and I recorded it on my DVR. Since it was never even released on DVD I'd say it looks pretty darn good.

Not a war movie so its off topic but I am unable to resist myself from recommending this. One of the best movies ever by Vietnam and also nominated for Oscars in the best foreign picture category.

Wow, not until browsing through this thread did I truly realize how many Nam movies I have. With Vet's day coming up, I'm going to have to whip up a list of movies to watch then.
