My buddy just bought a 60 gig PS3. He has it hooked up to a Hitachi 51f59 51 inch 1080i Rear Projection TV with a Belkin HDMI cable. Shortly after he bought it, he started to have picture problems. Sometimes the screen gets very bright, sometimes it get very dull. Sometimes it has a terrible picture quality where you can hardly recognize what's on the screen. He thought it was something wrong with the PS3, so he brought it back and exchanged it. When we got it hooked up, it started doing the same thing again. I HIGHLY doubt it is two bad PS3's. What are the odds of that? I think I have a better chance at getting struck by lightning.
I am wondering, maybe it's his connection from his TV where the HDMI plugs in, or maybe it's a bad cable. Does anyone know what might be up? Thanks! |

Never had any problems with the screen brightness but sometimes the picture freezes on my PS3 while playing blu-ray movies...then unfreezes and skips part of the movie. I have a 60 GB system with the latest firmware update. I have noticed it more on Fantastic Four 2 and Basic Instinct...it can be quite annoying. I have the system adequately ventilated but notice this is occurring when I have played a couple movies already and the system fan is on and running....any suggestions anyone????????

Highly doubt its the ps3's. My guess is its either the hdmi cable or the tv. Easy way to find out is to connect a different dvd player using the same hdmi cable. If it happens again you know its the cable or the tv and not the ps3. Does it happen when watching any other sources like cable/satellite or only using the ps3? It could be the hdmi input on the tv too. Play around with a few scenarios and post back.

He doesn't have any other unit here with an HDMI connector, so trying that is out of the question. Any other ideas? |

How about this. Does his TV not correctly convert the picture being output. When he starts up a game, such as NHL 08 or R:FOM, the TV says it switched the output to 720p. But I thought that some TV's (especially earlier HDTV's) had problems converting to a different picture quality.
Also, since his TV is a 1080i and we are watching a 1080p movie (Pearl Harbor on Blu-ray), what is the picture outputting? 1080i? 720p? Cause it can't be 1080p. His tv doesn't support it. |

Definitely seems to be a tv issue and not a ps3 issue. Something wrong with the hdmi input and hitachi seems to be aware of it. Keep on top of them and look out for a firmware upgrade or recall that'll address this problem. Good luck!!
