I live in UK, but fortunately I got a Japanese PS3 (region A)
may I suggest that you stick with titles released by buena vista, as they are known for their quality (especially SQ).... such as pirates series (pirates 3 is out in UK), apocalypto

Black Hawk Down surround sound is sweet as.
I remember it won some award back in 2002 for it's sound, as well as a few more...

Sorry I cannot get excited about PCM sound. Since I want everything bitstreamed and decoded by my receiver. And not to mention all those DTS HD MA titles you will only get core. Since you cannot decode or pass it bitstream.

Why? DTS-MA offers no more than uncompressed PCM.

BTW I'd take off Shooter, it doesn't use any HD audio, just DD. Thus would not benefit from your new system.

Hi guys!

Now everything is set up and it sounds FANTASTIC!!!

But - I have a question. My setup is a PS3 and Onkyo 805 and KEF 5005.2

I know the PS3 cannot pass True HD, or master audio to the reciever. Therefore I want lossless uncompressed PCM audio. I have set PS3 to "linear PCM" then the PS3 should send the sound uncrompressed. Is this the correct way to do it?

When I activate the "display" button on the PS3 remote I get this information in the upper right corner:

On DVD's with DTS it shows: "DTS" "5.1 ch" "48 kHz" "1.5 Mbps" Is this the correct quality?

---------------------------------------
With blu-ray I get these results:
---------------------------------------
Apocalypto says "linear PCM" "5.1 ch" "48 kHz" "6.9 Mbps" Is this the correct quality?
---------------------------------------
5'th element (remastered) says "Dolby TrueHD" "5.1 ch" "48kHz" "3 Mbps" Is this the correct quality?
---------------------------------------
Black Hawk Down says "linear PCM" "5.1 ch" "48 kHz" "4.6 Mbps" Is this the correct quality?
---------------------------------------
POTC - dead mans chest says "linear PCM" "5.1 ch" "48 kHz" "6.9 Mbps" Is this the correct quality?
---------------------------------------

Many thanks in advance

P.S. I feel like calling in sick tomorrow

What do you guys play titles like Foxes "Day after tomorrow" that only has DD and DTS MA?

I am about to watch it as well and want the best sound I can get..Still undecided on whether to keep the 805 I got with the CC price of 649.00 a few weeks ago.

In order to get the best sound from that receiver you really need a standalone. Of which the best buy right now is the Panasonic 30 to bitstream the audio for you.

Because of the way that DTS is set up you will always get the core track and it has a higher bitrate than most DD tracks. So I would go with DTS on it.

Only have a PS3...Thinking of getting another but the fact it can't pass bitstream and wont decode DTS MA is holding me back.

Honestly my favorite mixed movie is probably Apocalypse Now unfortunately its not out on either hd format. Then We Were Soldiers which is out on both formats and sports a EX track, better speaker config than 7.1 imo, though I still prefer a quality 5.1 setup.
