United Kingdom Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale - 14 Nov 2011

Can anyone confirm that this is actually getting the blu treatment?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rare-Exports...4200813&sr=8-2

I am skeptical as the pic is of the DVD version, and the price is identical to the DVD price as well.

Haven't been able to find any other info on this "blu-ray" release.

I would say that the signs are good, Icon have released a few foreign titles and they've also tried to have blu-ray pricing more in line with DVDs.

Oscilloscope Laboratories will be releasing it in the USA in October, as well.

I saw that, but unfortunately the prices of the releases are vastly dissimilar...the UK version being quite cheaper

I dont suppose anyone has any info on the extras for this do they? The US package is really solid, and even includes Santa Claus Conquers The Martians as a bonus feature.

The Finnish version is supposed to have the best extras. Not sure if the Finnish BD is English friendly though.

Indeed the Finnish BD does have English subtitles.

pteittinen have previewed the Finnish BD: http://translate.google.com/translat...p%3Fsid%3D2058.

Shame that google can't translate the slang words, would make the preview littler funnier, but hopefully you get the important facts of the release.

no buy here
will wait for US version to be cheap.

Finnish BD might not have English subs for the extras so will essentially bare bones if you cant understand what they are saying.

Just ordered from Planet Axel.

I was going to wait and get the UK version until I saw the insulting lack of extras.

It's very good, very good indeed. I saw it in the cinema last year and have been waiting for the Blu-Ray release ever since, going to be getting the US release considering the lack of extras over here. It's the perfect alternate Christmas film, a little darker than most and all the better for it.

I've taken a liking to low budget, independent films recently (Fanboys, Tucker & Dale vs Evil), so I may import it.

No way amd I paying for a barebones blu-ray!

Blind buy aswell, so I hope it'll be good.

Oh ok, I had it in my hand at my local BestBuy (notice I posted in UK forum), but didn't know if it was worth the $23 (us dollars). But I will head back out to my store tomorrow and grab it.

Thanks for your feedback!

Good news for those that can't play Region A locked BD's - all the extras in the Finnish BD are confirmed to have English subtitles (besides ofcourse the Finnish commentaries that are exclusive to the Finnish BD but those are missing from the USA release too).

But isn't the US disc region free? Also, as the Finnish BD is from SF I wonder if the transfer is identical. Frankly speaking I'm a bit worried it might be inferior.

According to dvdbeaver the US release is region locked:
Quote:
Disc:

Region: 'A' (as verified by the Momitsu region FREE Blu-ray player)
Video Bitrate: 31.98 Mbps
Vs. Finnish region B release:
Quote:
Video Bitrate: 23.85 Mbps
Both releases are AVC encoded and I don't see why they would not look very alike.
