Profile 1.1 movies coming in early 2008 - Blu-ray Forum

It appears that profile 1.1 movies will not be ready until early 2008. BLU-RAY and combo players that have the minimum hardware requirements for profile 1.1 and profile 2.0 will require a firmware update also to take advantage of profile 1.1 and profile 2.0.

So both the Samsung BD-UP5000 and LG BH200 will require a firmware update for PIP since only the hardware will be ready and the software needs to be completed. It takes longer to make software then to make hardware. This is what we need more companies announcing that their BLU-RAY and combo players meet the minimum hardware requirements for PIP (profile 1.1) and BD-LIVE (profile 2.0). This is useful information so that people know that when profile 1.1 and profile 2.0 is completed that a firmware update will be available.

We need more 1.1 hardware now!
Current players will not be upgradeable to 1.1.
They just don't have the hardware.
(PS3 being the only exception with that amazing cell that can emulate just about any feature via software.)

I'm sure 1.1 disks will play the movie fine on 1.0 only players (there really is no other choice) but without the fancy marketing features that movie companies enjoy so much.

Funny LG and Samsung are the 2 most problematic player right now, the only two taht couldn't play FOX movies LOL! talk about their FW Update..

I think the first real one will the Resident Evil : Extinction. They talked about a PIP fonction on the recent IGN interview, i doubt that Sony would go the Warner Way and do it with Seamless..
