Smile "look and sound of perfect" : wrong grammar?

I'm French, but I've always been good in english grammar and orthograph, and the "look and sound of perfect" HD DVD motto seems wrong to me. Wouldn't "look and sound of perfection" be better?

Not really, it's a tagline, not an essay and they're saying that if "perfect" had a look and sound, HD DVD would be it.

Technically it's bad grammar because the word "perfect" is an adjective. However, I think what they're trying to say is an implied perfection of "everything" i.e. "the look and sound of perfect (video and audio). Still pretty dumb, and incorrect, perfect implies you can't get any better, and with 160% of the capacity of HDduds, blu-ray would be "more perfect", which is of course, suggesting that HDdvd is in fact "the look and sound of less than perfect"

Yes, "look and sound of perfect" is grammatically incorrect. You could (slightly awkwardly) say "look and sound of the perfect" as meaning: look and sound of what's perfect. "Look and sound of perfection" is the most natural.

The HD-DVD slogan is adspeak of a kind cultivated peculiarly by copywriters in the US. Don't ask me why.

If that's the case wouldn't their slogan be "The Rook and Sound of Perfect"
