United Kingdom UK Official Blu-Ray Sales Charts

Thought it might be fun to have a thread for discussing the Official UK Sales Chart for Blu-rays. I know a lot of the in-store charts (Tesco, Sainsbury's etc) are totally faked with "New" entries for titles appearing the day the title's released based solely on which releases that supermarket chain has decided to stock rather than actual sales, but I think the Official UK Sales Chart is largely based on genuine sales and I always find it interesting, especially when looking at sudden new entries, which can often be down to just one supermarket having a special offer on or something.

Comments on this week's chart below. What do you think of the sales positions?

1. Men In Black 3 (entered at no.1 last week).
Depressed to see this still at no. 1 - it's a pretty crap 'let's just cash in and make as much money as possible' sequel.

4. Avatar
Been 131 weeks on the chart and the 3D release shoved it back into the Top 10. Surprised to see it move up from 6 last week to no. 4 this week. I guess new sales of 3D TVs ready for Christmas might be starting to kick in?

7. Lord of the Rings Trilogy
I guess all the publicity for "The Hobbit" is keeping this around? 138 weeks on the chart. Blimey!

8. Mrs Brown's Live Tour - Good Mourning [NEW]
Highest new entry for last week's new titles. Gobsmacked. Do people really rush to buy this in HD in large numbers?! I guess supermarkets stocking it has helped a lot?

9. Michal McIntire - Showtime [NEW]
Not such a surprise. And the supermarkets all seem to be stocking it which helps

16. Inception
Up from no. 139 last week?! I guess one of the big chains has got it on sale at a dramatically reduced price for some reason?

23. Singin' In the Rain [NEW]
Really surprised to see this as third highest new entry this week. Would have thought it was a rather 'specialist' title - and most 'specialists' would have imported it months ago from the States as it was region free. Guess I was wrong. good to see it's proving so popular.

34. Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection [NEW]
Guess this is a respectable chart debut given the cost of the product. I wonder if it will stick around for long or just disappear outside the Top 40 fairly quickly.

By the way the Official Charts are published every Sunday evening around 7pm. I won't post a link in case it breaks the rules about posting links to external sites but a Google search should help those looking to see the full Top 40.
