Tora! X's 3 is the superior film, though modern audiences may find that it drags on a bit and isn't as engaging as Pearl Harbor. It has an almost documentary or reality style feel to it at times.
The only knock against Tora! is lack of credit given to Kurosawa for his work on the screenplay. I would also love to see some of his footage as extras. He did 2-3 weeks of shooting before being replaced. |

Tora! Tora! Tora! is the best movie by far. It's a cohesive and accurate story with some outstanding old school special effects.
I must admit, though, that Pearl Harbor has the best ladies. Kate Beckinsale, Jaime King, Jennifer Garner, etc. So, the final score... Best ladies: Pearl Harbor Best everything else: Tora! Tora! Tora! |

Tora! Tora! Tora! is a docudrama about the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Pearl Harbor is a love story that happens to take place at Pearl Harbor. The two films are so different that I don't think they should be compared to each other. In my opinion, neither is 'best'. To determine which is the superior movie, you have to introduce comparative parameters. Best for historical accuracy; best for wide audience appeal; best performance at the box office; best for special effects (over 30 years separates the two movies, 1970 vs 2001.), etc. I own both and enjoy watching both. I can understand a comparison of Tora! Tora! Tora! to Gods and Generals better than I can to Pearl Harbor. ![]() |
