Blu-ray.com Community Top Horror Film Of Each Year Since 1980 (Read First Post)

Ok we just finished the big October horror marathon. I was sad to see it go and I am still in horror mode. List your top horror film of each year starting with 1980 all the way up to 2011. That makes 32 films in total. List only one film from each year. This should be self explanatory and there shouldnt really be any issues. So here we go......

List your top Horror film of each year since 1980. As long as your list consist of a movie that came out in that particular year then it qualifies. It doesnt have to be domestic release. Whatever the original date the film was released theatrical or straight to video counts. Make your list based on what u feel are the best/favorite or a combination of both or whatever movie u feel should make your top Horror Film from each year. Its all up to u!

How does it work? It's easy. You come up with a list of what you think are the Top Horror Film from each year since 1980. This is a more simple formula then our normal contest. Its basically gonna be decided by the number of nominations for that year. So for example if we have 50 participants and 30 of the list Saturday the 14th as the best film the year it came out then it would be the winner for that year. Most votes count. No point system.


RULES
1. You may base your list on best/favorites Horror film of each year since 1980 or however it works for you. To me best/favorites go hand in hand for the most part. It doesn't matter how bad the film may be perceived by everyone else this is your opinion only so dont be afraid to list what you feel you want to list!

2. Please do not make multiple list. I know as u see films people want to update their list and create a whole new list but that will make it to hard to tally the points. So when u want to add a new film to your list or just simply change your list just edit your original list. U can edit your list all the way up to the deadline.

3. Do NOT put multiple films for each year or any year. Put only ONE film for each year, or I won't count your list. Also we need atleast a minimum of 30 entries or I will not tally and do the results. It would not be worth it and to get tru results we need the community as a whole to participate. Especially us big horror fans.

4. Since this is for fun and discussing films should be fun, be respectful of each other. If somebody has a film you think sucks, who cares? The point of the thread is to find out what the community as a whole thinks is the top Horror film from each year since 1980.

5. Deadline: Monday November 26th at Midnight Pacific time. That gives us 3 full weeks to create a list which should be plenty of time. I wont take any lists after this. So make sure you get your list in before then.

Interesting ideas! Some notes: The 1990s are a virtual dead zone with years missing because I really just haven't seen many 90s horror movies I liked. 1982 was a tough choice between my final selection and The Thing, but ultimately I decided to go with the one I didn't think everyone else would say. 2003 almost went to A Tale of Two Sisters, and compared to Chakushin Ari it's almost definitely the better film... but I always seem to enjoy Chakushin Ari more. 2005's Dark Water remake is more of a character study with thriller elements than a real horror film, but I listed it because I love the film, and the competition from actual horror movies was weak that year.

The 90's (especially early 90's) were somewhat lackluster compared to the 80's and even the 2000's. I actually think the 2000's are very underrated. I did not care for Dark Water (Jennifer Connelly) at all. I just finished updating my list and I had some tough ones to choose from. That Hatchet/The Hills Have Eyes for 2006 was tough but I had to go with Hatchet.

Also noticed a couple people put In the Mouth of Madness for 1994 but it came out in 1995 so please correct and update your list! I wont count films entered under the wrong year. Also there is no need to do 2012 because the year isnt over with and there are still horror films to come out. Make sure u guys read the first post. Got Em!!

Cool idea. I'm already enjoying what people think is the best of the best from each individual year.

Some of these choices were tough. In the 1980's, it seemed like in some years, there were a handful of contenders that are all classics and then in other years, there were a handful of films that I all liked, but one didn't leap ahead to the top spot.

The 1990's is probably my least favorite decade for horror ever. Some of those years were brutal.

I agree that the 2000's are a little underrated...it's just gotten to the point that you can't rely on the gems to be in theaters like they were back in the day. There are certain years where there is only one clear favorite to me still though.

The 2010's have gotten off to a really bad start. Insidious is the only film I've seen that in 2010, 2011, and 2012 that I would categorize as excellent and probably a classic in the making. Neither of my picks in 2011 and 2012 would make a list of mine, even though I like them a lot.

The OP wanted to use the US theatrical release for In the Mouth of Madness, so I assumed that he'd want to do the same with The Descent.
