Another King Hu masterwork, and in 2K, is most welcome. Judging by the trailer this transfer may surpass Dragon Inn, A Touch of Zen and Legend of the Mountain blu-rays. I'll wait awhile before I order. Still waiting for Come Drink With Me, Raining On the Mountain, The Valiant Ones to be announced on blu-ray. |

Come Drink with Me has already seen a blu-ray release. And, that`s probably as good as that movie is going to look unless Celestial remaster it. It`s an older master though and isn't up to the current 2/4k masters standards. https://www.amazon.de/Schwert-gelben...gateway&sr=8-1 |

You've seen it? It doesn't appear to have the English dub. it must look better than the DVD, right? |

Why is it so hard for people to get these things right?

When I saw this restoration theatrically about a month ago it sounded to me like there were some new sound effects. However, I had never seen the film before so I can't say for sure that's the case.

Now, regarding The Fate of Lee Kahn, Is this title still available? Neither Amazon nor Bull Moose seem to have it. Pushed back? Has anyone ordered directly from Film Movement? Maybe I should contact them first to make sure there is no wait on this title before plunking down money that could dissipate into the ether. |

I had never heard of Film Movement until the announcement of Heroes Shed No Tears and The Fate of Lee Kahn. This is my first Film Movement purchase and pretty happy with what we are getting. The only minor concern was them not including an original mono track.
Can't argue too much with the transfer other than it might be just a tiny bit bright and a bit modern looking (in the transfer). It`s in the same vain as some of the recent 2k Fortune Star remasters. Can't vouch for how close the color timing/grading, etc, is to the original theatrical or if there are any missing filters, etc. But, the colors certainly do "pop". Not quite City Hunter level of "pop" but colorful. Extras include: Samuel Jamier and David Wilentz discussing the movie. Sadly, they are sitting against, possibly, the ugliest grey backdrop they could find. Lighting for the interview is a bit dark looking. The audio is a little off in the interview as Samuel is a little hard to hear; it sounds like he is farther away; though, they are sitting right next to one another. That interview oddly has an edit at the end with a quick snippet of an on-stage interview with, I'm guessing, one of the actresses from the film. It was a rather, tacked-on kind-of thing with no explanation as to where it was from. I would have rather had only that interview than to struggle to listen to Jamier and Wilentz talking about the movie. Also included are two trailers for the movie; a new one and an original theatrical one. There is also a trailer for Heroes Shed No Tears (John Woo) and Violent Cop and promo trailer for Film Movement. The booklet is standard fare for these types of releases. Along with the Mandarin audio track, there is an English audio DTS-HD Master Audio and 5.1 Dolby Digital track. The DTS audio sounds louder, on my television, than the Dolby Digital track. I would guess the English dub is the original one but, honestly, this is the first time that I have heard it. Nothing else to say. Overall, decent enough release. Would have been more complete with original mono. Might have turned out better had Criterion or Eureka gotten hold of it. I wouldn't hesitate to sell this off if Eureka do plan on releasing it at some point. This would be worth the double-dip for an slight upgrade. ps - and it was nice that it is now $10 cheaper roughly than when first announced. |

Wow, I guess I've been out of the loop. I missed this thread, and hadn't heard anything at all about this. I'm a huge King Hu fan, and just ordered it. Should be a nice upgrade from the DVD.
Love the cover art, too. |
