Disney Announces Home Alone Reboot

Home Alone is about to get the reboot treatment at Disney+. Company CEO Bob Iger dropped the big movie news Tuesday, revealing the beloved movie franchise will be "reimagined" along with franchise Night at the Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, for the upcoming streaming service.

Iger also announced that the company will bundle up subscriptions for Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu (with ads) for $12.99 a month starting the streaming services' launch in November 2019.

The original 1990 comedy written and produced by John Hughes followed 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. Kevin initially enjoys his time by himself, until he has to deal with two burglars, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, who disturb his peaceful stay.

Iger did not provide further details during Disney's Q3 Earnings call about what the reimagined version of the show would entail.

Night at the Museum premiered in 2006 and followed divorced father Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), who gets a job as a night watchman at New York City's American Museum of Natural History and he eventually discovers that the exhibits come to life every night, thanks to a magical Egyptian artifact.

The reboots join other offerings that will be made available exclusive through Disney's new streaming service, including the Studio's classic movie library and new original series.

The originals will kickstart with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, a 10-episode show that follows a group of students at the real East High preparing for their school's performance of High School Musical: The Musical.

The show's description reads: ""show-mances blossom; friendships are tested, while new ones are made; rivalries flare; songs are sung; and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only high school theater can provide."

Other projects coming to the service include The Mandalorian, Forky Asks a Question, Encore! and a number of shows set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The streaming service will also be home to a Lady and the Tramp reboot, starring Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux in the roles of the two dogs from different places who come together for an adventure, and love.

Disney+ is set to launch on Nov. 12 and will cost $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

I can't wait for Disney's first transgender fronted family comedy reboot or its first pansexual superhero with the same mind numbing 3 act formula zombies have been feasting from since 2008. Very exciting because based on Disney's over half century of white washing they're a very progressive company.

^ not to mention they're hell bent on erasing any history of wrong doing via editing original content on home video releases and firing directors because they didn't have the foresight to look into minor offenses done years ago by these people who've changed.

Anyway where was I? Oh a home alone reboot, well there's already been close to several sequels by this point I imagine, where's the harm in another "reimagining".

Home Alone 2019 Version

Parents get to airport. Realize they left Kevin at home. Call Uber. Kevin arrives to airport. Holiday vacation ensues.

Wet Bandits notice family on vacation. Go to rob house. Ring captures everything. Police come and arrest them.

Creepy old man next door finds love on silversingles.com. No longer worries about being alone for the holidays. Tells estranged son to get counseling on WebMD.

Pizza delivery replaced by Grubhub. Family orders all kinds of different foods. Kevin gets meal all to himself. Uncle still finds a way to utter the words, "Look what you did you little jerk." Kevin films uncle's verbal tirade. Posts it on social media. Video goes viral. Uncle shunned from society and forced to resign from his job.

Post credits scene: Set up for sequel. Kevin's parents decide they would rather be nobodies than upper middle class adults. They give into their problems with alcohol. Sell off Kevin to junk traders and leave him alone on a desert.

Morbidly curious to see how they pull off Home Alone with all the modern technology we now have available. The original would never have happened in 2019 lol

Christ I forgot that Disney now owns all this other IP that belonged to Fox. Still, if a rebooted [whatever] means we get 4K UHDs of the originals to tie in then go right ahead Disnee! The more the merrier.

This is really not a big deal at all. We’ve already had Home Alone 3 - 5 that didn’t have Macaulay Culkin in it. This reboot will be streaming only. Consider it Home Alone 6.

I don't think it will work. Kind of a movie of it's time. Like I loved the first two, and when they rebooted the series to make HA3, I felt that was awful. Unsure I ever saw HA4.

Home Alone 3 and 4 (this one with new actors playing the original characters and Kevin young again) are kinda reboots anyway. In fact it feels very much in the tradition of the series post Home Alone 3, basically made for Disney TV (previously for the Disney owned ABC Family, now for their streaming service)

Yeah, I knew about it, but the series box set release I have is the first four. Anyway by the 4th when they stopped being theatrical releases the production quality became incredibly low, so never saw a ton of interest in the 5th (maybe will watch it someday)

I thought I read somewhere that Disney is more in favor of digital releases than physical?
