I have 33GBs on my PS3 but cannot download 18GB Game..? - Blu-ray Forum

I want to download the Super Street Fighter Arcade that's free on PS+ and i tried downloading it and it told me i didn't have enough room on my drive. Which at that time was true. had barely 6 GB left.

So i go clean and deleted lots of stuff and i finally get it at 20GB of free space, figured it would be fine so i try again. NOPE!

So again i go through more stuff and i get to 33GB! I'm thinking to myself that there's NO WAY it tells me i don't have enough room... and BOOM i have my answer.

I mean i wasn't THAT good in math in school but i'm pretty sure 18 fits into 33! with alot more to spare than i had to begin with!

Help?!

Is there some sort of threshold or something?

Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh BTW i have the 120GB Slim (3 years old one)

More than likely the 18GB download is an compressed archive, which may unzip to 18+ GB, and until which the archive is uncompressed parallel to the extract, the archive will not be deleted by the system (cleanup). So you may need in theory, 18GB + 18GB+ or 36GB minimum; and I'd not be surprised if was in excess of 25GB depending on the game, or 18+25 = 43GB minimum.

You need twice the file size worth of free space to perform the install.

Exactly the reason why I just opted for a 500GB drive when I upgraded. I haven't had to worry about space a single time since launch day.

Yup but once the Install is over with, it goes back to the original size. I remember this from when I downloaded Record of Agarest War when that came out to the PSN Store. 9GB game but needed 18GBs to Install it, but went back to 9GBs after I was done Installing it.
