Default Abysmal Hotel Televisions

I've stayed in a few decent hotels over the years, and it never surprises me how pitiful the quality of the signal is on hotel room flat screens. And I don't think I've ever seen the proper aspect ratio on any of them. Granted, each guest will fiddle with the settings and that never helps, but that has nothing to do with the actual lousy signal. I guess most hotels are still using dated wiring, splitting the original signal multiple times via analog coaxial.

Maybe one of these days I'll be floored when I actually see a picture in a hotel room that looks as good as my home set-up.

I hear what your saying but if I'm away somewhere, the TV in the hotel falls down the pecking order in my list of priorities.
It may be on in the morning before I go out and on at night before I go to sleep that's it.

This. There's never anything on hotel tvs anyway, but Law & Order SVU...

the condo we stayed in at the beach last week had decent tvs. the den had a flat screen box tv. it had hdmi connections so i know it was at least 720p. the bedrooms had flat panel, lcd tvs. the signal looked pretty good, but was probably just 720p. each room had a dvd player so we at least had those.

the condo my sister and brother-in-law stayed in had a nice 42" lcd high-def tv with full 1080p resolution in the den. and the signal coming in was high-def. it looked nice the night we went there and ate dinner.

each condo is owned by individuals so the tvs in one won't be the same as in others. as well, one may have a high-def signal coming in while another may not.

Oh I totally agree. It's just amusing that many hotels are getting bigger and bigger LCD's, but are not doing anything about the actual feed gong to them.
