Has anyone else seen this? Apparently it was made back in 2006 and never released theatrically in the US. But now that Amber Heard is a decent star, they decided to see if it will make money.
I watched it a few nights ago and then saw it was about to be released to the theaters. It was kind of a generic horror movie with a very obvious plot twist. My only gripe was the motivation behind the plot twist. |

This has been available forever through region free imports. Watched it years ago. It's decent. Nothing spectacular. Should have been released a long time ago. If it was, it would have already been forgotten. The fact that it has been unavailable, for the most part, in the states is why it had remained known.

Here is the newest US trailer:
I love the movie, but I greatly prefer the trailer from years ago. The music in that one was much better for one. Just had a much cooler, retro feel. Here's that trailer: It's too bad this never received a wide theatrical release but it's nice that it's finally seeing the light of day here. I bought the UK Blu-ray and the quality is honestly a bit disappointing. One of my favorite things about the film is the cinematography and the transfer doesn't do it justice, IMO. I plan on selling that one and buying the US Blu-ray when it's released, hoping it will be better quality. Anyway, the movie would have been much better if it ended a bit differently. Really wanted it to end with [Show spoiler]

I don't really care if the twist is obvious. The style really elevated this film for me. Great cinematography, music (speaking of this I wish the cover of "Sister Golden Hair" would get released), and a gorgeous Amber Heard. It was very understandable that everyone would be infatuated with her character.

Neat little article about the film and its long journey to a release in the new Entertainment Weekly. Weinstein had acquired the film for 3.5 Million in what's described as a heated bidding war after it was an audience hit at TIFF. I wish someone else would have won in the end. They planned a wide release but then it had a disastrous post-festival test screening and they decided a platform bow would be better. I still remember it getting close to its limited release date and if I remember correctly it was pulled around a week before. It's too bad that after Senator acquired it and had planned a 2,000 theater release they went bankrupt after releasing The Informers. I wish Mandy Lane would have been their first release.
If this had gotten a wide release and showed up at my theater I would have gone to see it on the big screen even after importing the Blu-ray and seeing it 4 times. |

New poster: http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...ove-mandy-lane
This is the best poster I've seen for it. Though I haven't been blown away by any of the posters. The film is in theaters Friday. |
