Default Blu-Ray Finally Makes it Into Some Vehicles!!

into new Chrysler minivans.
Could this cause all the other manufacturers to follow suit?

Now if they allow the driver to watch, I'm in.

Wonder why this took so long. Ironically, between Acura and Mercedes I think there are still more vehicles capable of DVD-A playback (via an onboard deck, not a portable player) than BD?

I"m sorry but, blu-rays movies were made to be seen on a big screen, not on a 10" monitor. Buying portable blu-ray players is a waste of money.

If someone travels a lot or has kids they want to entertain with films...what's the waste in that?

A regular portable DVD player would be a lot cheaper, and sufficient, it doesn't have to be blu-ray. On a 10 monitor, it really shouldn't matter because, a child couldn't care less if the movie is in HD or not, as long it's a movie. Would I pay almost $250.00-$300.00 for a portable blu-ray? No!

That's assuming they have the DVD. If they don't, as a lot of movies do not contain DVD/Digital Copies, how else can they play them? I doubt that PQ is the issue here.

Blu-ray collectors, should already have a collection of DVD movies. It doesn't have to be brand new releases. When people travel long distance, the passengers have a tendency to fall asleep, so most likely, they're not going to be watching movies all throughout the trip anyway.

You are now assuming that people have maintained a DVD collection.

If the rest of your post is supposed to be the general rule here, why have any portable video? It should all be considered a waste if someone is just going to fall asleep right?

Playing Blu ray audio disc's would be the best reason to have one in your auto. If only there were more Blu ray audio releases

This is not an assumption! Before blu-ray, and the fomer HD-DVD format, movie buffs have purchased and collected DVDs for years, and many still do, and I'm one of them.

Just for the sole purpose of manufacturers to make more money. If I'm traveling long distance in a car, bus or a train, I want to sight see, and view all the different scenery, and landmarks in other parts of the country, that I've never seen before in person, instead of watching movies. That is one of the best benefits, when you're traveling. I can watch movies anytime when I'm at home.

You should be able to get that feature under the new HUD feature package.

I agree, but I think in almost every car your going to need an aftermarket system to appreciate the BD audio.

Far be it from me to not acknowledge that one could spend some coin on aftermarket gear and achieve SQ improvements, but the stock sound system in the E class Mercedes sounds terrific with DVD-A. And it's not just the additional fidelity; the near field experience of surround sound is delicious as well. I was just appreciating the across-the-car guitar duel in "Hotel California" recently.

People who buy a $65k Toyota Sequoia do not care what the cost of a blu ray player is.

I do find it interesting that the more expensive LX and Land Cruiser only offer DVD.
