Remove optical wire and leave HDMI ?

So my father hooked our bluray player with hdmi 1.4 cable and optical wire. Should i disconnect the optical wire and leave it only hooked up with the hdmi?

With HDMI, the optical is redundant (and limited to core lossy tracks), as HDMI carries all audio formats.. It's not needed.

P.S. There is no such thing as a HDMI 1.4 cables, the revision # applies to the transmitter/receivers

No need for optical. HDMI carries audio - better quality than optical.
