Post My receiver never displays Dolby HD or DTS HD

My receiver is the ONKYO TX-SR308 , and its connected with my WD TV Media Player with HDMI. I normally download bluray movies and when i play them, the receiver only display Dolby D or DTS. Does this mean that im watching movies with ''Non-Hd audio'' ?

Yes. You are hearing lossy audio, not lossless. I am not familiar with the WD TV Player. Does it even support high resolution audio?

So this way,im not hearing the best audio possible right ? Im pretty sure it supports high res audio. Setting : Audio output : Digital pass-Through via HDMI only.

From a quick scan of the WD TV manual, it only appears to support Dolby Digital, which is not high resolution audio. You'll need to get a Blu-ray disc player if you want better audio.

Try playing the discs themselves on the Blu-ray player. Most players do not support playback from external drives.

Hard to say. It depends on the bitrate your current player is sending. But, since you have a disc player, you can find out for yourself by playing Blu-rays on it now.

I switched on my bluray dvd player and i went into the audio settings.

What should i set those?

Dynamic Range Compression : On / Off

DTS/DTS-HD : PCM / BITSTREAM
BD -Video Secondary Audio (If you wish to hear the originali audio, please set BD-VIDEO Seconday Audio to ''Off'' : On / Off

Bitstream for both Dolby and DTS. Secondary Audio must be set to Off. The other settings don't matter for these purposes. I am assuming your receiver has DTS-HD and TrueHD decoders. If not, you would set Dolby and DTS to PCM instead of bitstream.

I changed the settings to what you suggestion. What about the Dynamic range compression ? What does this do ?

That's Night Mode. It has no effect on bitstream.

Do you now get TrueHD or DTS Master Audio on your receiver display?

Unsupported may mean that the external HDD needs to be reformatted into another file system .My Blu-ray supports HTFS but my AVR doesn't,it supports FAT.So I have to refomat my 2TB external HDD to FAT if I want to play it through my AVR.
Just wondering if that's your problem,
good luck with that.

You mention you don't get lossless audio on downloaded movies but I've never heard of legal hi res audio movie downloads. If you're looking for help playing illegal downloads, you should look elsewhere as this site doesn't look nicely on that. (if not apologies for having misunderstood).

Judging by yet another thread you have opened at AVS, I gather you have not actually played a disc yet on your Blu-ray player. Rather, you are reformatting your drive in hopes that you can play downloaded movies with lossless audio through the BD player instead of the WD TV. It also suggests that you don't own the discs themselves. I'm with pentatonic about not providing assistance for playing illegal downloads.
