Default The Lost Years of Merlin

The Lost Years of Merlin Green-lit

Quote:
Warner Bros. has approved a big-budget adaptation of The Lost Years of Merlin, the first instalment in a 5-book series of fantasy novels by American author T.A. Barron, Heat Vision reports.

The series tells the story of a young boy who washes up on the shores of Wales, with no memories of his past, and follows his journey to become England's greatest wizard and a mentor to King Arthur.

With the final Harry Potter film out this summer, there will certainly be space for a new story about a boy who becomes a wizard.

IGN first reported on the adaptation when Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Simon Kinberg was attached, but now the project is at Warner Bros., the search for a new director is on.
Sounds interesting and will be cool to see if it does turn out to be the next Potter for WB.

Percy Jackson pretty much flopped, didn't it? I think it's too soon, they need to leave the world of magic alone for 3-4 years I think. I'm not sick of HP but I'm a Potterhead, I would imagine non-fans can't wait for it to go away.

They are making a Percy Jackson 2 so I don't think it flopped to bad. I do think it did worse then they expected though but still go enough for a sequel.

Could be a fun series. Percy Jackson was alright, not amazing but good. It's one of the cases where I actually enjoyed the movie more then the book in fact, something that does not happen to me very often

So, there were some last remaining minutes of his spare time that the NBC series and the goofy Halmi miniseries didn't cover?

(The book series is okay, but the search to artificially create the Next Potter Series has a fork stuck so far in it, there's no retrieving it.)

'Merlin' adaptation secures a writer

Quote:
Warner Bros. has hired a screenwriter to pen the script for the adaptation of T.A. Barron's The Lost Years of Merlin.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Whitworth will write the screenplay for the highly-anticipated movie. A script reader at Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions, Whitworth has been trying to be a screenwriter for 10 years.

"If it didn't work out, I'd move on to the next [script]," he said. "I would just try to persevere. It's something I really wanted to do, even when it got hard."

The film will tell the story of the wizard Merlin's growth from a young boy to a man that becomes the defender of the natural world and mentor to the famous King Arthur.

The amateur screenwriter is currently hard at work on the script.

"Everyone tells me it'll never happen this easily again," Whitworth added.

In the past few years, tales involving the wizard have become increasingly popular. The BBC broadcasts Merlin, a series that chronicles the adventures of the young wizard. Meanwhile, Starz features actor Joseph Fiennes in the role.

Wasn't he secured in the first post? When I read the headline I thought it was something else. Sure hope they do a good movie and focus on Merlin and less on Arthur. I want to see some magic.

I didn't see him mentioned in the article so I think it's new news or old news but nor confirmed. I haven't read the books so I could be wrong but I don't think Arthur is even in this series as it's about the adventures of young Merlin and how he becomes the powerful wizard that will help Arthur one day.

Doesn't it go til he is older though. A day before the OP http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...entpole-188723 this came out the original source citing a screenwriter.

Not sure as I haven't read the books. Guess he was announced as the screen writer strange they didn't mention it in the IGN article I posted.
