Default What if Sony added an add-on?

We all know the XBOX 360 has an add-on to support HD-DVD. There is nothing besides Micro$oft stopping it from having a Blu-ray add-on.
Well just out of curiosity, is it even possible for the PS3 to add an HD-DVD add-on?
Obviously that would make me neutral in the war (leaning toward the Blu side), but is it even possible? I suppose if it did happen (unlikely), a lot of people might see that as one of two things...

HD-DVD winning

Blu-ray HD-DVD player in one machine for the fraction of the price of a traditional dual format player.

I don't want BD to lose, I am totally for BD! I just wonder what would happen. Thoughts?

I think it's possible, but obviously not likely.

And more to the point, why? If you don't have a 360, you can pick up a 1080i HD DVD player for not much and the 1080p players should be marked down a ton at Christmas.

Either way, if you want to go neutral, it's easy to do so.

that is true. prolly less than the 360 add-on anyways.

I guess the best thing would be for the 360 to add a bd add-on (yeah right)

I don't want to go neutral really, since it means more movies, more players, more HDMI connections and cable... more money I shouldn't spend..

it would be a nightmare

I am good right now and I don't want to add anymore HDMI objects to my system for a while.
BTW do they sell an HDMI switch?

I think the PS3 would have to have an update to handle the lower rate of data coming from the dud drive and any other issues that are imcompatibility issues between the formats. Then you would be spending money on something to give you lower quality than a good Blu disc.

But I suppose it could be done.

an add on VHS player would be nice lol.

Add ons suck. Juat look at the history of them they always end up failing like the sega cd and the other add on they came up after that ect ect

the nice thing about the Ps3 is that it has it all(sony was really thinking ahead) so will be no need for an add on during its long life span

I'm still waiting for the 1080p LCD / VHS combo at Wal-Mart. That's a must-buy.

sony bet all its money on blu ray and will never go HD DVD...microsoft on the other hand chose DVD as its main format with the HD DVD add on JUST in case HD DVD lost the war, it can do a Blu ray add on...had microsoft used HD DVD as its main drive this war might have been over already with HD DVD as the victor

That is true, all those 360 fans should DEMAND that the 360 have a Blu-ray add-on.
M$ could care less about the money from the format, but this would sure sell even more XBOXs. Too bad for them they are stubborn @$$es.

I use the one from Octava, its the only one I have found that switches BOTH HDMI and TosLink... that way I use the fiberoptic for the stereo and the HDMI for video, and do NOT have to get an HDMI receiver... OR worry about switching the receiver inputs to match the video, it just works.

The best thing is that its automatic, I turn on a component, it switches to that component, I turn it off, it switches back. Sure, there is a remote to toggle, but I hardly ever use it.

I think the PS3 could play HD DVD's with a simple FW update but still it's not going to happen.

The 360 will have a Blu-ray add on probably announced before the end of next year I bet. I don't see it happening with the PS3, if they had one, I wouldn't buy, I would get a standalone player.

Default Sony took the smarter approach...

They replaced the "o" with an "i" and made it a "p" instead of an "i". If you are tru Blu you get it.

LOL - that's what I've been thinking: Why can't Sony build a Blu-Ray add-on for the XBOX?

Rup.
