Default Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom

Quote:
Jason Schwartzman Joins Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’

In November it was reported that Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton were in talks to appear in Wes Anderson‘s next film, Moonrise Kingdom. But we haven’t heard much about the project since. Now that production is gearing up to shoot this spring in Rhode Island, we’ve begun to get some final confirmations on which actors we can expect to see in film.

The local Rhode Island casting agency LDI Casting has revealed that “Ed Norton, Frances McDormand and Jason Schwartzman will join the already stellar cast of Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray“. Schwartzman is the only new name to be added to the list. The story involves two young lovers (aged around 12-15 years old) who runaway from their New England hometown, causing the locals to search for them. No actors have yet been named for those roles, but casting agencies were looking for locals, and its likely they will be unknowns.

Steven Feinberg, executive director of The Rhode Island Film & Television Office, has also confirmed to The Examiner that filming will begin this spring on Aquidneck Island and in “numerous locations around the state.”

The screenplay was written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola (who also co-wrote The Darjeeling Limited). The only plot synopsis we have comes from Deadline‘s November news article:

Quote:
[The film] is set in the 60s. Two young adults fall in love and run away. Leaders in their New England town are sticking the idea that they’ve disappeared and go in search of them. Norton will play a scout leader who brings his charges on a search. Willis is in talks to play the town sheriff who’s also looking, and who is having an affair with the missing girl’s mother, the role McDormand is in talks to play. Murray, a regular in Anderson films, will play the girl’s father, who has his own issues.

Wes Anderson is my favorite American director working today and he is arguably one of the best. Although I would've preferred that he continued making animated movies in the mold of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," a new feature-length movie is always welcome, and that cast alone makes this worth checking out.

I am on the opposite spectrum, I enjoyed Fantastic Mr Fox and thought it was fantastic as the title suggests but it was an experiment for Wes to show how talented he really is.

Now as for the movie, excited to see Norton in it, not excited to see Willis, he doesn't have the Wes type of feel, wish they got someone else. Wonder who Owen Wilson will end up playing.

Well it can't be any worse than his last two films. Or can it?

Awesome. At the very least, I have enjoyed every Wes Anderson movie. The last two weren't movies that I would revisit any time soon, but I enjoyed them. Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic are among my favorite movies and Rushmore is also a very good one in my book. I am very excited for this cast.

Default Focus picks up Wes Anderson's next flick MOONRISE KINGDOM!

Quote:
NEW YORK, May 2, 2011 – Focus Features has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Moonrise Kingdom, the new feature from two-time Academy Award nominee Wes Anderson. Indian Paintbrush is presenting the American Empirical Pictures production, which Mr. Anderson is directing from an original screenplay that he wrote with Roman Coppola. Filming has begun, and Focus Features International (FFI) will commence international sales on the title at this month’s Cannes International Film Festival. Focus CEO James Schamus made the announcement today.

Moonrise Kingdom is being produced by Mr. Anderson, Scott Rudin, Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales, and American Empirical’s Jeremy Dawson. Previously, Indian Paintbrush executive-produced and co-financed Mr. Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Darjeeling Limited, both also produced by Mr. Rudin.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Bruce Willis plays the town sheriff; two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton is cast as a camp leader; Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents; the cast also includes Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. The young boy and girl are played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

Mr. Schamus commented, “One of the world’s most distinctive filmmakers, Wes crafts witty and emotionally affecting pictures. The stellar cast will bring his and Roman’s fanciful script to life, and audiences will enjoy their trip back in time to this Kingdom. Everyone at Focus is pleased to be working with Wes and partnering with Indian Paintbrush.”

No. I forgot about that one. Was it good?

I was thinking way back to Death to Smoochy. I really liked what he did in that.

Wes has not made a single movie that I have not loved. He is probably the one director whose movies I will see without a second thought. Anytime there is news on his making a new movie, I am thoroughly excited. This one is shaping up nicely.

Moonrise Kingdom has always been my #1 most anticipated movie of 2012 (yes, even in a year with The Avengers and The Dark Knight), but that trailer solidified it even more. I love Wes Anderson and he seems to have another classic here.

Definitely a good trailer. I look forward to this with great anticipation. I was a little unsure of the cast fitting in to Wes Anderson's style, but it looks like they all work well with it.

Agreed. I feel like Norton especially will be hilarious in this.

I think Fantastic Mr. Fox is his best movie (I wish he'd do more stop motion films!), and The Darjeeling Limited was really good as well
