United Kingdom Avengers Assemble ... Really? On 17 Sept - Preorders

Avengers Assemble Blu-ray

Avengers Assemble Blu-ray HMB Exclusive SteelBook

Avengers Assemble 3D Blu-ray

Marvel's The Avengers Blu-ray

Read that The Avengers is due release 1st October for Germany, who BTW get a steelbook. Guess UK will be around that date too

Did the UK really change the title to Marvel Avengers Assemble?

How many will look to import due to this shambles of a name change?

Most people in the UK think of the 60's TV series when they hear Avengers. I'd never heard of the comic Avengers until a few years ago. It's a similar case with Iron Man. I'd not heard of that character until they started making the movie, and when I heard Iron Man, I thought of the Ted Hughes novel (which got re-named to The Iron Giant in the US for the same reason this film is being changed here).

Well, to be fair Iron Man (the comic character) debuted in 1963, and Hughes' novel came out in 1968. So Marvel had the name first. Not that it means anything, just saying, lol.

Yeah, i don't like the name change. Why couldn't they have called it "Marvel's The Avengers" so people wouldn't have gotten confused.

I hope there's a slim chance the original title will be re-instated for the home video release, doubt it though.

Yeah they should have called it that. I fail to see how they could have had a panel on this and come to the conclusion that Avengers Assemble was the best choice.

Its obviously been tacked on at the last minute like "X2: X-Men United". the actual title card will probly still say "The Avengers".

nah the UK trailers are all tagged with the god awful 'assemble' name

Tbh, when I first hear about this movie, I thought of the old 90's Avenger's movie but was that prior one had nothing to do with superheroes I knew right away they were different 'Avengers' and I doubt I'm the only one smart enough to realise the differance.
Oh and if i needed help, slap Downey Jr's face around a bit and am sure that would clear up any remaining confusion

It clearly should have been renamed 'Marvel's Avenger's' if at all.

It will do, they changed the title of Fast Five as well, yet the film still held the title of Fast Five I believe they also kept the name John Carter of Mars at the end of the film

The title on the film will be The Avengers, I assure you guys, we'll just have to deal with the case art.

On that note, I still think it's a stupid change, most the films target audience don't actually know of The Avengers TV show, plus with the age of the Internet, most the trailers they would be saying, will say The Avengers at the end. This is catering to an older generation who have no care in the film, so they slapped a half arsed cheesy rip-off sounding title on to the film be cause they think all English people can only handle one thing with the same title.

This might create confusion with some people wondering if it's the same movie with Chris Evans etc or if it's some ripoff made by Asylum Studios like Battle of Los Angeles, Transmorphers, etc.

I would imagine its so they could call the sequel 'The Avengers' or the brilliantly titled 'The Avengers....again'

I'd have preferred it to keep the original title and think it's an overreaction to re-title it but I have met a couple of people who only know of The Avengers the TV series. Granted, the posters and trailers have Iron Man and Hulk on them making it very clear this is not the same thing but not everyone sees the posters or trailers before the film, even in this day and age. Some people just look up cinema listings. As I say, I think it's an overreaction to re-title it as I don't see there would have been enough confusion to warrant it but I can see why they went the 'better safe than sorry' route.

Also, it isn't the worst title in the world, especially for this film. At least 'Avengers Assemble' is a phrase from the film/comics - one integral to the whole thing - and, with this being the first time the group comes together, it suits the film. The Avengers was just fine as a title, I agree, but if they had to rename it - and they obviously thought they did - then Avengers Assemble is a good way to go. There are many worse ones they could have gone with - 'The Avenging Superteam', 'Iron Man and his Superfriends', 'Iron Man 3 and Incredible Hulk 2 and Thor 2 and Captain America 2: The Movie'.

Hopefully the Blu Ray release doesn't say Avengers Assemble it just sounds cheesy anybody who has watched the last to Marvel movies should know what the Avengers is as at the end they Thor, Captain America will return in the Avengers.

The title is up on Play.com as 'Notify Me' and what makes it worse is that they've called it Marvels Avengers Assemble which is just stupid take off Assemble so that it doesn't sound like a kids toy and it will be fine

Avenger Assemble.... what? Do they all go down IKEA and buy kitchen units? I guess Thor could use his hammer and Tony Stark might be smart enough to understand the instructions....

Maybe the next Transformers film will be called Transformers Transform? I hate the name change just call the film The Avengers like the animated series, audiences expecting bowler hats need not apply.

I guess it's Scarlet Johansson in a cat-suit that's confusing everyone!

In the comics one of them would always shout out 'Avengers Assemble' as a call to arms before getting into a ruck with some super powered menace. Seems too cheesy for them to do this in the movie to be honest although I expect there'll be an ironic mention of it.

Personally I can see why they've done this. Disney aren't stupid, they'll have done market research and surveys on it, the majority feedback they got from Joe Public in the UK probably suggested most people still think of Purdy and Steed when asked what 'The Avengers' is. It's a show which is pretty much ingrained in UK pop culture despite the fact most of the younger generation will have doubtless never seen it.

The change isn't as bad as it could have been, but I'd still rather just The Avengers, or Marvel's The Avengers.

Even if it still has the title onscreen, it annoys me when packaging calls it something else. For years we coped with Raiders of the Lost Ark before the final VHS release called it Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (with every subsequent release following suit), The Final Conflict became Omen III The Final Conflict and in the UK, almost every Disney sequel with a Roman numeral onscreen and on the VHS cover suddenly got changed for a standard numerical value.

Completely agree with this one. At least with Avengers Assemble it's before the film is released, Raiders was a bona fide classic and a title that was established and associated with the brand. I understand they went for retroactive continuity with the rest of the collection but no-one would have cared if they didn't compared with all us geeks who rolled their eyes when they did.
