Australia SINGIN' IN THE RAIN - 60th Anniversary Collectors edition

Hello folks

I'm wondering how I can obtain the 60th anniversary collectors edition Bluray of this famous musical, here in Australia.

I have checked several au online businesses .. from EZY, to Sanity, to Fishpond, Booktopia ... several smaller obscure ones .. nothing.

I know of my one major retailer ... that being JB Hi Fi ... appears, on their website, they don't carry it.

Does anyone know where I can find it?

I'm in the Sydney area. If there's a video retailer that tend to carry Box Sets ... of Blurays ..... I'd love to know.

By the way .. this has been out in the states since July 2012.

I don't see anything that suggests it has not been issued here in Australia.

It can't be a region issue ... (Region "A" for sale only, "B" not made yet) as Warner Brothers Home Video do not make their blurays region specific.

Can anyone help?

Thank you very kindly.

You can't order from Amazon?
Are you wanting just the blu ray or the box set with the umbrella?

I got the boxset with the umbrella just recently from Amazon US when it was on special for about $40-$45 and they shipped it to me in Australia as they always do?

Edit: just realised your problem, when you go into amazon it is defaulting to another seller, you need to click on the bit where it says 56 new and then it brings up a list of sellers, scroll down to the bottom and second from the bottom on the list is Amazon.com for $59.49 and add that one to the Cart.

It is just that there are cheaper options from third party sellers than Amazon, however a lot of the 3rd party sellers don't ship internationally.
So you just have to choose Amazon or another 3rd party seller that ships internationally, i always tend to use amazon though if they are there as a seller for the sake of a few bucks, rather deal with them.

Well ... you da best!

I really appreciate all the help you are giving.

So .... I see exactly what you mean .... by going through the various sellers.

I see one selling it for about 51 bucks .. and shipping is some 12 bucks .. with a 65% approval rating .....

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aag/main?ie...=A4NT3SXEM62S6

Other sellers offer one and only one shipping method "3-7 day" ... and costs is 32 dollars. With Singin In The Rain .. itself .. about 60 ... pushing the order 92 dollars or more. (Trying to avoid spending too much money for a 60 year old film - LOL)

So ... unless you think that one seller is "iffy" ... I just might go with that.

I don't sound like a seasoned Amazon/Online shopper .. because I don't buy online much. I tend to stick to old fashion methods ... the stores themselves.

And again ... a HUGE thank you .. for your help.

Very, very nice of you!

yeah i mainly buy instore in aus too, but these type of special editions dont come out here, thats what i mainly get from amazon plus a few movies that dont get released here.
But i think you will find postage with the amazon listing will be cheaper, may be better of going with that one in the long run and if you have issues, you know that amazon look after you like if it doesnt turn up or is damaged.
they are very good with service like for refunds or replacements.
Thats the main reason i dont go with third party sellers on amazon
the only time i do is if i really want something and amazon dont sell it themselves.

by the way this is a pretty cool set, it was actually better than i expected, the umbrella is pretty well made actually not as cheap as i thought it would be.
Looks nice on the shelf with my other similar sets, willy wonka, casablanca, gone with the wind, etc

Why is being in the correct ratio a downside?! you would rather they zoom in and cut out picture just to fit your screen?

It was never shot in widescreen, they only really had 4:3 back then I would rather screen size sacralise over losing any if the original picture.

Here's a little story relevant to the last few posts ......

I went to see SINGIN' IN THE RAIN .. at a "revival house" movie theater in Costa Mesa, California. A place that shows classic movies from all eras.

As SINGIN' IN THE RAIN was shot 1.33:1 .... I was expecting it to be shown in it's correct aspect ratio. (I've seen it some 3 other times on the big screen in the last 20 years).

However .. their 35mm film projector is rigged ... so only films framed in 1.85:1 are ever shown. So .... the film was projected in 1.85:1 .. therefore cropping the top and bottom of the frame. When you do that ... you're not only cutting off valuable picture content meant to be seen .... but you end up with medium to close-up shots ... that cut half the head off of the actors ... in many, many scenes.

Talk about "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS" .... I almost felt like the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland .. with the people running the movie theater.

I told them how distracting ... and how un-enjoyable that viewing of Singin In The Rain was.

Just up north in L.A./Hollywood .... if you go see a revival of an old movie - 'Last Remaining Seats' event, Arclight Hollywood/Cinerama Dome, American Cinematheque at the Egyptian theater .. and more ............ you can expect the people running these programs to show their films in their correct frame .. and in their original process .. if possible.

So .. for those you in Orange County California ... avoid the Regal Cinemas across the street from the South Coast Plaza mall. If there's a film .. shot prior to the Widescreen Revolution of the 1950s .. which is all films from 1953 .. on back ............ forget it!

The people running that theater are just to lax .. and don't bother to project "Academy" frame films ... correctly.

Drive up north to a revival event in Hollywood - where they CARE!

I thought by the 21st Century all revival house movie theaters are more educated about showing films in their correct aspect ratio. Sadly .. in my native Orange County ... they are not as savvy .. as revival house operators in Los Angeles and Hollywood!

In the film ... they were working on a "swash-buckling" film with an 18th Century setting .... probably set in France ... then along ..... Don Lockwood .. describes inserting a modern (1920s) Hoofer All-Dance number set in NEW YORK CITY ... into this period piece .... uhhh ... that was a real stretch !

Critics of the time .. could have really gave MGM and the Aurthur Freed unit some flack for that move .. in the film.

Today though ... we can forgive it ... after all ... Do they make films like this anymore?? Does talent at that level exist anymore? And those who truly love the shear ART aspect .... we can watch the hoofer number ..... in AWE ... as it's a window ... into a time in film history .. when there was a real drive ... Art for Art's sake.

Today ... It's Art for Money's sake! Studios are more "corporate" .. and wouldn't come close to the Golden Age way of doing things .. if their "corporate" lives depended on it!

Come to think of it ..... Because the film was set in the 20s .... a better way to insert the Broadway Melody number .. was for Don Lockwood to be in his sleep ... and appear as a "dream sequence" .... kind of like the 17 minute dream sequence in American In Paris. Not as a tag .. to their 18th Century "The Dancing Cavalier". LOL

I saw it once ... some 10-15 years ago. I loved it ... because I'm very nostalgic about the 1960s ... I look for subtleties ... the way 60s films were done .. and this is a wonderful time-capsule .. for what I find a very interesting time period in world history - 60s styles .. 60s sensibilities ... paints a picture of a world I find more gentle ... to today's more "hard edge" way of living.

The only thing that drove me nuts though (sorry ) they played out the theme song to the film .. one too many times. Talk about a broken record.

None the less though ..... If this was out in Bluray ... I'd get it.
