United Kingdom No more HMV exclusives?

HMV going under and their stores are apparently closing according to the media. No more HMV exclusives. Will play or amazon interject?

as far as im aware its only the stores and not the online side of things that are going under, so i presume the steelbook side is all safe and dandy

Umm, PLAY is also closing so you'll be looking at Amazon for that...

IMO it's for the best, lately they have been flooding us with too many Steelbooks. Maybe they will become collector's items once again.

Of course they will, there'll hardly be anyone to release them. The only big waves we will get will be the Warner Bros ones, and then just the odd ones here and there

its a shame but due to last years influx I've luckily got all prior fave movies that I've wanted to get steel treatment ie Cloverfield, IM2, Requiem For a Dream etc.
The only future ones I'll be sad to see go (worldwide I'm referring too) are the Disney ones (with the loss of Viva its unsure if any more metal cases shall be made/released for Disney titles).
Other than that I'm pretty confident the big blockbuster movies will still steelbook treatment so it'll just be the futures smaller, rare gem of a movie release where I'll have to settle for ameray only I think.

Most news stories that I have read, said that the Music Business and Movie industry are desperate for HMV to succeed. So who knows, maybe if the the Films Industry bring out a lot more Steel-books, then HMV will survive?

That is if Steelbooks really garner them that much revenue, when looking on the whole. It's really only a "thing" for collectors like us on the internet.

But don't forget that if HMV is gone and Play.com is gone, Amazon will have a dominant position in the UK. They might refuse to pay wholesalers full prices and get everything as cheap as possible. This could be positive if they lower their prices too...

Just noticed HMV's website is not accessible. So are we just suppose to sit and wait to see if Looper gets dispatched next week?

Seems like you have no choice. If you ordered one from HMV, just wait and see. If you haven't ordered yet, place an order with Amazon.

Not exactly. I hate to be the "potential" bearer of good news, during bad, but the US SB collecting crowd could, greatly, benefit from this...provided Amazon does an ounce of research and figures out they could get these exclusive SB's and ship them worldwide.
It will probably never happen, but at this point you'd have to say the door is open, albeit just a little.
