What 2012 film didn't meet your expectations or the hype you heard?
For me, it was easily Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I had read the book, and was a pretty big fan. It had its share of humor, but overall read like a lost Abraham Lincoln journal. It tied real events into the story and reworked them into a semi-believable tale of being caused by vampires. The whole arc and flow of the story worked, and the ending was worthy of referring friends to the book. Then the film came along and they tried to turn it into a graphic novel on film, while still trying to keep a semi-serious (though different from the novel) story. As a result it got slammed by critics for "Taking itself too seriously" when in actuality the problem for me was that it took itself LESS seriously than the book. They completely changed the story, the characters, the arc, and the ending- which was made into a complete junk generalization that more or less implied any passionate drunk in a bar could have done what Lincoln did. I had very high expectations for the film when I heard that it was being made, and the film came nowhere near them. It was a below average popcorn flick, made for 3D effects. What was your biggest disappointment of the year in film? |
