So I have a number of UV movies from services like VUDU and Flixter. (Note that I'm Canadian so I don't officially get VUDU; I can only use it with a U.S. IP). I also have an account with CinemaNow, the other service Canadians can use.
Now the movies I have are HD copies. My internet isn't good enough to stream HD quality. I understand I can download the movies and watch them on my PC with each site's respective player, but is there any way to get them on my TV? I have a PS3, and can't use my Xbox 360 for it because apps require a subscription which I don't have. Apparently because of DRM I can't just pop a movie on a USB drive and put that in either my PS3 or my TV, which would be ideal. And even if I wanted to stream them, how can I do that? Flixter has no PS3 app, and CinemaNow has removed their app from the store. I think Cineplex is another option, but they have no PS3 apps either. I believe there might be a way to get VUDU on my PS3 via a workaround. It's kind of crazy how fractured and restricted ths is, for being advertised as "anywhere, anytime" and all that. Even if Blu-ray didn't have superior video/audio quality, there's no way I would come close to fully switching to this the way it is. I suppose if worst comes to worst I'll hook my PC up to my TV, but I'd rather not have to. |

Xbox Live is no longer required to use video services. I know that's true in the U.S. I don't know if that means any other UV-enabled apps are available for you in Canada, though.

Vudu is available in the US as an app. Create a new PSN account and set your country to US during set up. Then you should be able to download it.
Vudu App Zu is also correct that the video services are no longer behind the pay wall for the 360 in the US, so you may want to reevaluate that option as well and see if it is the same in CA. |

Since you are in Canada you are SOL, I recommend maybe getting a cheap roku box or something else that can play vudu in canada.
If you can manage to install the VUDU app on the PS3 you might be able to download to the VUDU app on the PS3, don't know if the download file is different than the VUDU webpage (so as you don't have to deal w / proxies but don't even know if it will let you open the app at all also. Also, have you tried just going to the VUDU, flixster, etc webpage inside the PS3 web browser? maybe that will work? |
